Falling H20 at 0 deg F + PANO = (BIG PIC)

i like the blue it gives it a mystical apperance. now if only there was a dragon

I like it a lot. When are you teaching classes I'll drive down. :)

I wish the lower parts of the photo were a touch brighter. So autostitch is a standalone product and not a feature of some other software?

Anyway, thanks for sharing. It's very beautiful.

Thanks, I will let you know about the class ;)

I am working on a full resolution pano of this shot now. With this many pictures in the pano, it takes about 20 minutes for autostich to grind though and assemble. I have developed 1 set for the highlights, and another set for the shadows. I will blend the two in photoshop. So, the lower parts should be brighter in the final product.

Stand alone program. Its sole purpose is to sort, assemble, and blend panoramics. Check out their website. The demo is fully functional and free.

Hi Citylights,
What an AMAZING scene. Looking forward to how you develop it.

I THINK I can tell from the rest of the posts that you only shot one exposure,,,that's a pity,,,cause the shadow side (about 2/3rds of the photo) could def use some higher exposure (like plus 3 or more stops),,,

In any event, I bet with RAW, you will produce an outstanding photograph. Congratulations!!!!
All the best,
Kevin

Words that have come to annoy me:
1. Capture or digital capture
2. Enhance or 'digitally enhanced'
3. Manipulate or 'digitally manipulated'
4. PP or Post Processing
5. To Photoshop or Photoshopped
6. Phart or PHART or PHoto ART

I find these words to be derogatory. They imply that photography is now done by machines, not people.

You are right. I shot the pano with all the same exposure. Next time, I think I will bracket for the posiblity of blending. That is a lot of pictures on a pano though.

Thanks. Can I ask, is the photo in your signature a blended multi exposure pano? It is beautiful.

Very nice pics Citylights .I love waterfalls .

Yes.

I do not have a pano head. Without that, it is quicker/easier to shoot handheld for a pano. I can also approximate shooting around the nodal point from handheld.

I did shoot one pano from the tripod when it was still too dark to shoot handheld. I blew the sky exposure, so I had to crop that. Still the resulting pano is 12 megapixel. This is what I salvaged, the shutter speed is 1 second...

Take the camera when you go out for ducks! ;)

Hey how do you estimate shooting around the nodal ,what is it ?
Thanks ,hope your enlargement works out well .

And wonderful view. That's some dynamic range as well. I certainly admire your work.

The nodal point is that spot in the lens that you can rotate about and minimize (or eliminate?) paralax error in panoramics. With a tripod and Pano head you set it up so the camera rotates about the nodal point.

Here's more:

http://www.vrphotography.com/data/pages/techtutorials/technotes/nodalptalign-tn.html

All that tech stuff is a bit much for me. The nodal point is somewhere between the midpoint of the lens and the camera. Close enough for handheld pano shooting.

When I shoot a handheld pano, I lean back slightly and try to pivot/rotate about that point to minimize paralax errors. That makes it easier to stitch the pano.

i tried that software, and stiched together 10 images, but the final outcome was only 1400x800. at first i thought the images were blurry, because i couldnt zoom in, but i now see the reso is tiny. did you buy a copy to reap the benefits of the larger pano? i haventgone through the settings, so that may be it. thanks again city,

what were the settings you used?
ITS A 16 image pano assembled in autostitch. Subtracting for crop and overlap, the resulting pano is 51 mega-pixel.

In autostitch the settings were 100% size and minimum JPG compression. I did not change any other of the parameters. I just have the free version.

I also posted this image showing how autostich put it together:
