Hello All,

We had a bit of an ice storm here in the Detroit area of Michigan a couple days ago. That is not very common, but it happens. Then the next day the sun came out. Now THAT was truly remarkable!! So I took the opportunity to take a few shots around my local area. I didn't stay out too long though because I was beginning to lose my fingers! :)

This is my first official posting with pics here. As I said in the New Year's thread, I have been lurking about for several years at dpreview. I decided to be more active this year. I have owned my LX1 for a year now, and have had a great experience with it. I am a Panny loyalist.

Okay, enough about that, though. On to a couple of the pics. Please let me know what you think. they have been run through Neat Image for noise and some mild sharpening.

Wow, that's some ice! I heard in the news about the ice storm and was already expecting to see some ice shots here. Thank you for showing these great interesting images. Well done!
Oh, and welcome to the forum.

Icing makes the ordinary extraordinary...interesting series, yet ominous in its innocense. I've seen on the news cars out of control because of the icing on the surface.

Nice job. Very nice shots. Last one is my favorite. Makes you wonder how are feathered friends survive when they can't get at the winter berries.

I have had no sun and very little light when getting off from work so only took 2 shots monday as the freezing rain was tapering off. Total accumualation was just a little over 1/2 inch. Links (FZ30) --

Fantastic set, I'm glad you half froze your fingers off for these shots - it was worth it.
Keep posting,

I would like to thank all of you for checking these out and giving me such kind compliments and words of encouragement. That is truly the hallmark of this room. To hear these things from you really helps boost my confidence, and will help inspire me to keep going out there to look for 'that shot'.

Kim - It sure is easy to forget that that same ice that provided good shots for me also ruined other people's days.

Jocaleb - Yeah, there were a lot of cars spinning out here. They shut down one of our local expressways because 10 cars spun out on it. This apparently happened about 30 minutes after I had gone right by there. Just missed it, thankfully.

Trevor - The paint is starting to rub off of my camera because I carry it around so much!

10kzoom - 1/2 inch of ice! Holy smokes!it looks like you made pretty good use of the light you had to work with, especially in the 2nd shot. Very well done to you, also.

Mike - Thank you and I love the quote you've come up with.

Ella - Yes, now that I can feel them again, I'm glad I went out, too.

I love how the first pic shows the arched branch perfectly encased in ice. Never have been in an ice storm myself, this gives me a much better feel for what it must be like. Terrific first posts! Welcome.
