if I mock you, it may be well deserved.

The pictures are excellent. The color and quality look exactly like the ones I take with my D200 and an SB800. With the SB800 you don't need strobes or umberllas in many cases.

Unless, of course, the goal is soft light???? Are we in the twilight zone?

These are not well done. They look exactly like shoe mounted flash, which is NEVER the goal if flattering light is the objective. My goodness, talk about the blind leading the blind!

Light is basically flat - no dimension to the subjects. Harsh and specular (light too far and pointed right at the subjects vs. feathered). I'm not being harsh - this is just not the goal of studio lighting. Glad you're asking for C&C and willing to learn.

Try one light and softbox - within 2-3 feet of the subjects at 45 degrees and the umbrella near the camera about 4-5 feet away for fill set 1 stop lower. The key will provide dimension and the fill will reduce the contrast by filling the shadows. If it's too contrasty - increase the fill power.

It's even easier if you use 1 light and a foam core board for fill opposite the subjects.

Joe is right. I appreciate your ability to get interesting expressions from your subjects, but the the lighting on these is not their strength. Follow his tips using only one light, and you'll get dramatically better results.

To you both

Thanks for your comments and tips. I had thought myself that this could be produced with my Vivitar 283 flashgun. I do appreciate the critisism (hope its spelt correct). i wish to learn and learn from my mistakes and trials, thats the good thing about digital aint it??
Again thanks for taking the time for commenting!!! No offense taken.

I'm sorry but these photos are just bad. The light is flat. The exposure is off. There is no style, character or interesting perspective. The images just don't offer anything different than one might get with a point and shoot camera.
