Hello,

I recently asked about teleconverters for bird photography with the fz50 and received useful information, and now was wondering if anyone could point me towards a good source of info regarding macro lenses. I would like to photograph insects, spiders, etc this summer, and was wondering what the best macros were, the best-for-money, etc etc.

Thanks!

Search on DCR250.
It's inexpensive, pretty good quality, and there are a bunch of
threads with example photos.
Another good one is the Raynox DCR-150. Less magnification than the DCR-250, but more working distance as well. Seemolf created a very nice chart with the working distances of various achromatic close-up lenses:

Here's a good thread on the DCR-250 vs. DCR-150:

The Raynox DCR-150 and DCR-250 are both excellent achromatic lenses.

They both have clip on adapters which makes it very convenient to attach or remove.
The DCR-150 is a +4 diopter, DCR-250 is a +8 diopter
Here is a link to my FZ30 Raynox DCR-250 gallery...

Raynox, no question. Three element glass, achromatic. Anything cheaper will just disappoint you, given the already fine glass on the FZ50.

The Raynox 250 is quite tricky - very narrow depth of field. Use Burst mode, and hope your critters move slowly.

--Nice write up Bob. Very nice gallery too.

Some of your examples inspired me to try the raynox dcr-250 with my FZ50. It's an amazing lens, and I have not been disappointed. I recommend it to anyone wanting a good lens at a reasonable cost. Regards,
