Hi, My boss is going to the US for his regular feild-trip very soon, he has agreed to pick me up a F707 while there, he will be in the Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, West Hollywood area, can someone please recommend some retailers in that area that will give a reasonable deal but more importantly a good camera. I will be arming him with most of the things to watch out for as far as blue/black dots and manufacture dats. Any info would be most appreciated in regards to a reputable retailer within the outlined area. Many thanks in advance. HotShoey--HotShoey

Sears with internet pricematch. Some have had problems getting them to match price, but others have had no problem. Might want to check to see if they have them in stock first though.

Sears and the price match dance may be too much to ask someone who is doing a favor.

Maybe you should see if Circuit City or Best Buy has an outlet nearby and then check to see if they have stock. Los Angeles is spread out and not that easy to get around if you're a visitor.

I'm in a similar boat to you, I'm waiting for a friend to return to Australia from the UK in a few weeks. He's agreed to get me a 707. Prices in UK aren't quite as good as US, but still much better than here!

Best of luck.

Ed.

Thankyou GP, My boss knows his way around LA(been going there for 20 years, he'll hire a '68 Mustang and go for a cruise no problem, he's a bit of a John Travolta and loves the attention(typical Marketing person)

The Best BUy $59.99 4 year service plan has international service covered. You pay for it then mail the bill and they send you a check.

SOmething to consider since you won't have an Aussie wrty.

Any Best BUy should be able to print the info up for him. Oh, and 707's don't stay in stock long around here......

Here are some US dealers I've bookmarked. I've no idea about current stocks. I note that BestBuy wants $999 for it. I'm sure you can do better than that for over-the-counter purchase:

MultiWave: $931 -- their site includes driving directions:
http://direct.mwave.com/mwave/Index.hmx?UID=&CID=&Back=

Canoga: In LA; Sony dealer but none listed — you'll need to contact them:

http://www.canogacameras.com/e/env/0001-967450-3474599371-78090924-10331-9I3x0/price_list/grp074_75_list.html?link=%2e%2e/sony/H_Cameras.html

Sparco: They have a good reputation and price ($909), but low stocks at the moment. But like many US dealers who offer international service they don't respond to e-mails :-( They have a warehouse in LA (no 707 stocks there just now). I suggest you telephone them and see if they will move one there for direct collection.

Good luck, and consider arranging an HVL-F1000 flash while you're at it.

Hi HotShoey,
Pressure getting to you is it hehehehehe!
Bet your crossing off the days as they go by too hu?

Do you need me to come back around to your place so you can have one more hold of the F707 before you get your own? hehehehehe!

Your right the Prices here in Australia are shocking and I truely don't know how Sony justify such mark ups, when it is far cheaper to have the camera imported from USA and pay the duty on it, than to buy it here in Australia.

Sony need to have a good look at their pricing policy and why it varies by almost $1000.00 in some countries.
I'm glad you found someone who could get you the camera HotShoey.
Ohhhh one more thing..... Don't Forget To Breathe :)

Hope you manage to get some sense out of some of them. Sparco has been at the top of my shortlist and I'll telephone them eventually about a possible pickup from their LA warehouse as well; but I'll leave it until I'm ready to buy — still need to do something positive about flogging my old gear so I can afford the 707 etc. :-(

I have a standing offer from a friend of a friend, whose son is a pilot who regularly stops over in LA (he actually maintains an apartment there), so I'm looking at eventually going much the same route as you. It will save the initial freight charge, but at the moment there'd be a very high chance of a warranty return I reckon.

I'll be interested to hear how you get on.

Cheers,
Mike
