Keep the K10D or get D80?

If there's one feature the K10D sorely lacks for usability in pro-style shooting, it's gotta be a white balance button. But SR is a lot to give up just to get easy white balance.

I was thinking the same thing... but the only time I am going for the WB button is indoors in incandescent light. Once set, I leave it there until I am done or the lighting changes significantly.
It ended up not being as big an issue as I thought.

With the auto max ISO on both the Nikon and Pentax I don't find myself wanting an ISO button all that much either. I thought I wanted them until I started shooting the D80 and realized how infrequently I was looking for them... and even when I did use it, I was still futzing about with the exposure setting on the D80 (something I didn't have to do on the K10)

All the reviews in the world will never be able to asses my needs and how I use the tool. They do give me a good starting basis for comparison and then I have to overlay my needs. 30D, D80 and K10D all good cameras, K10 just works best for me.

Ken points out the metering issue in the D80 as well. The D40 has
the same metering system as the D80.
I was shooting -.5 to -.7 all of the time, but that still was no
guarantee. You still needed to shoot and look at the highlights and
adjust accordingly. It was dependent on the amount of highlights it
was metering so you couldn't adjust for it in a consistent manor. I
missed to many shots mucking about with it.
That being said... I may pick up a D40 for a beater or when I am
going to be shooting in very low light and wont be doing any
cropping.
I take my cameras snowmobiling, hiking/camping and 4-wheeling so
the environmental protection is a real nice benni as well. SR for
me was a nice to have, not a must have but I am not sad the K10D
includes it for the price. This camera for me wins on overall value.
Strange. As far as I know Canon always blowup highlights and Nikon keep them well buy metering a little more -0.3EV. Just to keep highlight. Which is a good point. I don't get it why you use -0.7 and still get blowout highlights??!?!

I agree. Never had the issue on the D70. D200 in the store worked wonderful. We could recreate the problem with both the D80 and D40 with ease. They both are using the same metering.
Go figure. Maybee they went a little less "pro" and a little more "sumer"?
