Is your lens loose on your G2?

Quick question.

I got a fingerprint on my lens (oops!) so I bought a Lenspen (very nice!) and cleaned it off. This was my first time cleaning the lens.

Anyway, I noticed that the lens at the front had a little bit of play (somewhat less than 1mm) -- I could wiggle it around a little bit.

Is this normal? Or should it be tight with no play?

Does anyone have any experience with Canon service in Canada? If I send in my camera now, will I get it back in time for my trip to Japan in 6 weeks?-- - awh

Do you mean that the actual lens glass itself is loose in it's mounting, or the barrel of the lens which extends from the body is loose? A little play in the barrel of the lens wouldn't please me greatly, by may well be par for the course (I don't know, I don't own a g2) but a loose lens element itself sounds extremely efficient.

With regards to how long it would take to get fixes, I suspect a search through the archives for this forum should yeild some answers to that question.

Drew,

Yep all g2s have that loose lens. Most people seem to get a lensmate for protection. Im always concious that one drop of that extended lens and thats it goodbye G2. So I hold it as carefully as my six month old son...
