There was a time when I had 5 - 6 Nikon lenses (only 6 months ago).
Then as my ability grew . . . I needed more lenses.
And better support for older lenses.
I wanted to use primes.

Then I realised only the Nikon D200 gave proper support for it.
I hate spend that much on the body.
I had only the D50.
For manual lenses, it only had focus confirmation, no metering.
So then I felt I've had it, and sold the whole system.

So here I am, I bought a *ist DL2, got myself a M42 - K adapter.
Now I am happy as a bee.
Metering & focus support for older lenses on every *ist D.
Bravo!

So how many of you are here because of older lenses?
Oh, and I love using AA batteries for dslr.

I stuck with Pentax (K100D.....and K10D fairly soon) because I already owned about a dozen (superb) Pentax lenses...................but am very quickly becoming spoiled with the autofocus FA's.

A dream of mine? The 31mm Limited.

This worries me because I treasure my old glass.

Progress. It can't be stopped.

I find the DA line covers my needs better than the old glass because they are so small and light.

My system is CRAZY small when you look at the range and lenses I have.

As an e.g. the stunning 100mm macro is some 100grams lighter than the nearest competition.

I'm also here due to the Pentax compatibility with the old lenses. I'm very pleased with the K100D (my first DSLR) and also with some very cheap and good lenses I bought on ebay.

I started buying pentax lenses 5 years ago because of pentax' history of backward compability.

last year I bought the ds, and now the k100d, the only reason is the great pentax primes of late 1970's!

Can I have your old glass then? :D

Please explain this to me. You're saying that the D80 for example doesn't have the support that the D200 has for legacy lenses????? I'm not suprised, but I don't understand what the difference is? Can you explain this. Thanks.

D80 mounts the older manual focus Nikkor lenses, but no metering is available. True also of D50, D40, D70, D70s.

D200 and the other pro bodies from Nikon offer metering on those lenses.

Don't be dead sure about that focus support. I'm finding the light comes on often early or late, when the best focus has not been achieved. Best rely on your eyes, and don't figure on doing really well with slower lenses in poor light. The focusing screens in modern DSLR's are too clear and without any focusing aids give you a less than perfect focusing abililty.

That's good to hear. The old FA 50mm Macro is a tank.
