How about a 5-6 meg, 7x lens, Swivel "999"? Even if the body is slightly larger.
Ricoh has done something like this recently, even SMALLER. (Less zoom) Or aren't they worth comparing against?
I consider a 3 meg, as a "low end" camera, and a 5 meg as a "Mid Level" camera.
A 9-12meg, would be a "Hi Level" or pro camera.
Yes, we need more sensitivity in "Grey Levels" in digital photography, so we can see shadow detail better, and not "Blow Out" the bright stuff. In order to compare "Grey levels" to Hearing, (actual 20hz-20k hz, or Ficticious 5hz-40Khz) remember that the pupils in our eyes are able to adjust, to compensate for the varying light sources. In effect "Shifting" the center of our "Grey Levels".
And how about a "Mini" 3-4 meg, non swivel 3x lens, RUGGED "Pocket" camera, to compete against the Canon 110? Pocket sized!!! W/ Speed/Apeture Priority, and
"800 Film Speed"?
I'll buy both of these, "When" they come out!!!
I DO love my 995, Too!! For now.

================
The 5meg imager is so good, that there seems less need to push it
farther, faster. Getting more lens on it, deriving more dynamic
range from it--these are the most probable next steps. 3.1 meg
imagers are more destined to the mid range as 5 meggers take over
the top.
Size of my 990 is just right for me. Love my 3 lenses. Will the
next generation(s) of coolpix or whatever beyond today's 5k give me
full features, modest size, and let me use my lenses?

How about a 950-size swivel 4meg? Might be doable.
