Coolpix 995 about to be superceeded??

capabilities. The digital toys are comming out so fast that it
does not make sense to buy everyone that hits the street. Every
other one will do!
Or maybe less. The effective "half-life" seems to be on the order of months ... it could get really expensive to always have the latest product sitting in the camera bag. While the price-performance changes means you will get more for less in the future, I find that the "next"thing I want always manages to cost more than the last one :-)--Grant Y.

How about a 5-6 meg, 7x lens, Swivel "999"? Even if the body is slightly larger.

Ricoh has done something like this recently, even SMALLER. (Less zoom) Or aren't they worth comparing against?

I consider a 3 meg, as a "low end" camera, and a 5 meg as a "Mid Level" camera.

A 9-12meg, would be a "Hi Level" or pro camera.

Yes, we need more sensitivity in "Grey Levels" in digital photography, so we can see shadow detail better, and not "Blow Out" the bright stuff. In order to compare "Grey levels" to Hearing, (actual 20hz-20k hz, or Ficticious 5hz-40Khz) remember that the pupils in our eyes are able to adjust, to compensate for the varying light sources. In effect "Shifting" the center of our "Grey Levels".

And how about a "Mini" 3-4 meg, non swivel 3x lens, RUGGED "Pocket" camera, to compete against the Canon 110? Pocket sized!!! W/ Speed/Apeture Priority, and
"800 Film Speed"?

I'll buy both of these, "When" they come out!!!

I DO love my 995, Too!! For now.

================
The 5meg imager is so good, that there seems less need to push it
farther, faster. Getting more lens on it, deriving more dynamic
range from it--these are the most probable next steps. 3.1 meg
imagers are more destined to the mid range as 5 meggers take over
the top.
Size of my 990 is just right for me. Love my 3 lenses. Will the
next generation(s) of coolpix or whatever beyond today's 5k give me
full features, modest size, and let me use my lenses?

How about a 950-size swivel 4meg? Might be doable.

Sounds good... just add full advanced external flash features that have been missing until now.

By the way the nice solid grip on the 990 seems much better to me than the grip on the 995. You can hold a 990 with large external flash in one hand with out any fear of dropping it.

I am another person who isn't convinced that smaller is better... I think a 990 is about as small as you can go before it is too small for easy use. :-)

I'm with you Neal!

The cp990 is still my favorite digicam. The swivel design on it is unique in getting outstanding shots from any angles. It's rugged and can take a lot of abuse. When I first got it, I thought it was the ugliest looking camera ever made. Then, I started shooting it w/out a tripod and was completely sold!

The cp5000 is so tiny that you can hardly brace it anywhere (on its sides)and still squeeze the shutter. I save it for wide angle shots and when I need good indoor illumination w/ my sb28 flash.

My wish list for the next Nikon cps would be higher megs for cropping purposes, external flash hotshoe and wide angle lens sporting the cp990 body.
