Broken H5?

Hi,

I bought a H5 approx 1 month ago and have been using it (successfully) since in anticipation of getting some amazing photographs while in the Maldives in January.

I think the camera now has the same problem mentioned above. The "half press" function does now not work. The green light and beep does not appear when half pressing the shutter and the camera is set in Centre Focus.

While viewing previously taken images it was possible to switch to take picture mode by half pressing the shutter at this time. This does now not work which makes me think that there is a problem

Any ideas?

Thanks

Chris

Sounds like the same problem I am having. Maybe there is a bad batch of them....

Real pain as I'm leaving for the Maldives in a couple of week so don't have too much time to sort it out.

Will go to my local Sony dealer tomorrow and see what they say

Ya, the first day I had mine, there was the same problem, for sure. Then I found that I had pushed the focus button and it was on Manual Focus. Try pushing it to one of the Autofocus settings and see if the light and beep don't come back.

I've checked the focus mode, done a initialise setting and a reset.

I main thing that makes me thing that there is a problem is that while viewing taken images the camera doesn't switch back to take picture mode by a half press of the shutter which it used to do

I agree. Sounds like a camera defect. It should always return to capture mode upon half-press. Can't think of any situation when it wouldn't.

Spoke to Sony customer service today and they will repair free of charge however it wouldn't be fixed before i leave on honeymoon.

I've been emailing the company i bought it from and they are trying to sort it out with their supplier to do a straight swap for a new H5

Fingers crossed!

Good News!

The company i bought the camera from are going to send me another new H5 to use while on the honeymoon. I will send my H5 to Sony to repair while I'm away and will then return the new H5 to the company when i get my camera back.

Top quality service from the company i bought the camera from

Still a bit annoyed with the camera fault though!

That happen twice on my H2 exact problem which I just gotten back from Precision Cameras who does the repairs...taken two weeks...something dealing with the switch block. They will send you a UPS label, just box it up and drop it off at a ups store or they can arrange a ups pu at your house. good luck

That is great news, Chrisc2.......I know what a hassel it is to have to do this, but at least you will have a nice camera for your honeymoon.

I really need the cam this week, so I can't afford to be without it until after next week. Even then, it will be painful.......

I am very happy for you!

Sorry to bring this one up again

I've still been using my "broken" H5 until my replacement arrives. Today whilst taking pictures of the very muddy post walk dog the camera started auto focusing.

I'd been taking pictures ignoring the half click problem just fully pressing the shutter button (the camera still seems to have enough time pre shutter to successfully focus 50% of the time) when rather than take the picture the camera auto focussed. Unfortunatly it focussed at the bottom of the button travel so I couldn't push it further to take the picture.

The camera has since reverted back to previously discussed problem

You gave me a momentry glimmer of hope that mine would revert back to normal. Oh well.....Glad to hear your replacement camera is on the way, though.
