c700 gets close to tree viper

Nice shot. Well-focused snake scales really show well in these digital images. That green one from the other day was amazing.

About 20 years ago I saw some sort of tree snake in the SF Zoo (I think). It had it's body looped several times over each side of a limb, forming a cradle in which it rested its head. I've been told that posture is not uncommon. I have always wished I had been able to take a picture of it.

Dennis,

I'm not a great lover of snakes or spiders, but those are great photos. I like P1180011. Great portrait shot of the green snake. Was that also shot at 1/4 of a second? By the way, I love my C-700 but I can't hand hold it as steady in slow shutter speed as you and Daniella. But since I have been practicing I have improved to a full stop slower hand held then before. Just not near what you and Daniella can do. Maybe if I become a snake lover that would help. Just kidding. Great shooting. Have fun.

thanks i hated the camera when i first got it because i used it in auto mode my first day,and the pics were nasty with blown out highlites tons of "ca" and lots of noise this cam does terrible in auto mode.most of my snake pics are 1/4 sec the hard part was not getting any glass glair,or having little kids not bumping into me.--dennis daugherty

Hello,

I guess you're even better than me :) at 1/4 i need to be in wide angle, then i can go up to 1/2. at full zoom i am limited pretty much at 1/10.

BTW, i went to see the monster trucks today...that was hard to shoot, the place was so dark, i had to use ISO 800 pretty much all of the time, so i took moslty video clip. but i got the Madusa rolling on the side..the women beside us said..."women driver..." LOL, she did put up a real good show though...everybody wanted to see a 250,000$ truck bite the dust and she surely pleased the people :)

I thought ISO 800 would be worse than that, its quite usable, i was surprised.

It's a bit noisy but once rescale the photo look pretty accaptable, i will post them tonight on my gallery.

Yes the auto mode is completely point and shoot but its not very good in some situation...

I always prefer to use the P mode, it calculate the exposure and shutter speed, but let you choose the ISO and other settings and you can use the exposure compensation with it.

and of course the full manual mode.

Even with auto mode though, i never got bad photos as Phill got on his review for the c700, dunno how he managed.
Dennis, are all the pix in your gallery taken with the 700?
yes and all are hand held this camera is great once you learn i'ts
nasty learning curve it's not a pick up and shoot in auto mode
camera despite what steve's digicam site says

Cool picture. Did you have the camera right up against the glass? I don't see any kind of reflection or refraction at all. BTW, handheld at 1/4 second? That's incredible.
