May i answer the question (because the posted link points to my pics).

My experience with the Sigma 50-500 is very good. I have not seen a MTF analysis of this lens until now but i am sure the optical quality is on par with the 100-400L lens from Canon (which is amazing because it is a 10x zoom which is a quite compromise). The mechanical build is good too.

The big advantage of the Canon EF 100-400L is of course its image stabilizer!
