like a camera bag. I live in a major city and take my camera with me to work and back on the train so I'd like to have a camera case that doesn't look like a camera case and the Crumpler is one that came to mind; if I can find one.

But are there others that are just as nice that don't stand out and scream camera camera camera?

Hi there.

I've just purchased the Crumpler 'Geekstar'

It just fits my outfit nice, and again I chose red for the colour as it doesnt really stand out as a camera bag holding expensive gear.

I think the geekstar is about the 2nd largest bag they do, but it isnt that big at all, with a lense fitted to the camera, it will hold one more lense in the main compartment but there is a hidden compartment that will hold 3 small lenses or another couple of lenses and a flash etc.

It is very well made and feels like you could drop it from a great height and it would bounce with your gear in (although i wouldnt likme to try it ;-))

Nice bag for the money.

Regards, FletchUK.

I am also looking for this type of bag. I was going to get the 6 million dollar home, but my wife says it looks like a "man bag". lol, I still might get it though.

I own a Crumpler Dreadful Embarrassement laptop case which I really like and it looks nice also especially for a guy (just don't get it in line green LOL). I'd bet the 6 million dollar bag looks great also, that's the one I'm looking at also.

I don't think you will like the crumpler. It's pretty thick and you will constantly be hitting people on a crowded trian. I recommend getting a messenger bag and adding the padding you need. EVEYRONE has a messenger bag so it won't stand out. It's far better across the shoulder than a crumpler(I have two that I never use). Nothing against that line of bags, they are well built for sure but have too much padding and heft to them. When you go to use one with a few leneses you realize how much wasted space there is for the padding. You won't drop your bag, go with less padding....

I second that. Some time ago I bought a Crumpler sight unseen, based on feedback from these forums. What an ugly, disfunctional beast! Complaint #1 was that it was waaay over-padded. The internal dimensions were tiny in comparison to the external monstrosity. I hated how it felt on my shoulder, and it stuck out conspicuously on the side. I returned it immediately to the store.

I visited Australia this summer and made it a point to go to a Crumpler store in Sydney. I have not changed my mind that I will not consider a Crumpler any time soon. First, the "$6-9M home(s)" are uuuugly. Even more importantly, they are just not made with a photographer in mind. At this time I have a Tamrac Velocity 7, a Lowepro Slingshot 200, and a Lowepro Mini Trekker. The two Lowepro's don't really look like camera bags, all three a much more functional that the $6M home. If you want a messenger bag that most thugs will not immediately identify as a photo bag, buy an Adorama Slinger. Not the prettiest thing to look at, but I am told it is at least functional. I will stick with Lowepro's for the immediate future.

I think the LowePro Rover AW series are quite nice. I have a Rover AW II, and if I don't have a tripod loaded, I don't think it looks like a camera bag a lot.

Sister of my GF had a bad experience with Crumpler, when some part of her Crumpler photo bag broke, and the remainings of the bag with EOS20D + 24-70/2.8 + 70-200/2.8 dropped to the ground. Surprisingly little damage occured, though (the 24-70/2.8 was smashed).

Whoops, I thought you were looking for a backpack. Sorry.

I received my Crumpler Whickey and Cox this week. I was so excited based on the reviews. Guess what? It's going back to Crumpler next week. The idea of the zipper in the back is great, don't get me wrong. But is soooooo heavyyyyyyyyyyyyy, even when it's empty. I put only a couple of lenses and I was already suffering. It looks huge! when you have it on your back. It seems that you are going camping.. I figured it's not the best move to go through busy airports.

I'm lost now. Need a backpack for camera gear and laptop that is not too heavy but is padded, doesn't have bulky straps, fits carry on standards, does not look like a camera bag, pretty impossible! I also want a messenger to carry around during the day, I was thinking about Crumpler 7 million but I guess NOT.

the search goes on...

Well, since I work for a large university in a major city, and since may people on the train have backpacks I decided to get the Lowepro Slingshot 200. I fit in with all the students like you wouldn't believe; I looks like I'm carrying a bag full of textbooks.

The Lowepro Slingshot 200 is a great bag for the undercover look.

I wish I knew. Crumpler looks really good but can you imagine carrying around all that weight in a train? It would be nice to find removable padded camera compartments so you can place them in a regular messenger bag.

But if it says "Lowepro", it says "camera", not?

Yes, but there's also LoweAlpine, which is I guess the same company since the logo and also the bag design looks almost the same. So unless the thief has very good eyesight or is close, it's difficult to judge.

Or even easier....remove the label. I did on my lowepro and now it looks like a plain black backpack. Quick and easy fix!
