First Infrared Photo

Very nice! I'm thinking about getting that R72 for my UZi, I take it you like it?

I'm curious, what does the image look like before the conversion to B&W?

General question for group: For "analog" film I've read it's usually suggested to used a red filter with the IR filter when shooting B&W. Given that this is good advice, is it still needed for digital photography? Can I get the same effects/quality with just the IR filter and even some touchup (red removal?) in PS?

Thanks!

Thanks Mike and Jeff, for Mikes questions, yes I like the filter I think it's neat, as for the red filter I may give that a try, you could also set the camera to B&W and shot that way, but it takes very little processing in PS to change it to B&W. Here is what the photo looks like before processing.
Thanks Jeff for the site, it looks like that may be fun to play with.

I think that is an incredible picture ... I really like it. I am a B&W fan and it sort of gives a B&W plus look ... sort of akin to some of Ansel Adams stuff. I really need to try some stuff in infrared. I have an old dead tree that I have been waiting to photograph because it is almost too good to simply photograph. Keep shooting and keep posting. Thanks Ergo and Juli, I pass this tree everyday going to work for the pass 25 years, I live on the other side of the mountain you see in the backgroung, and keep saying I'm going to photograph this tree. It'a a California Scrub Oak, and it's the largest one I have ever seen, God only knows how old it is, but it's still alive.

Juli, that's the way I feel about the rose color glasses, just had to get away today from the stress of work, and life in general.
Have a great weekend

Thats a powerful looking tree!! I don't think color would've done it justice.
Great shot!!

Jim, I think it turned out quite alright and shows much potential. If I had an area like that near me, I'd spend a lot of time there. Lots of photographic possibilities! Cheers ... -- Rich in NEPA [NATURAL ACTS™]“The Object of Nature is Man; the Object of Man is Style.”

Hi All, this is my first IR photo, and it was processed in
Photoshop Elements using Grayscale, any pointers in processing or
shooting with IR filter would be a great help. The IR filter I used
was Hoya R72
Thanks
