Skier's backpack?

if you don't mind a bit more protrusion from the pack compared to the Dakine Sequence, check out the Mountainsmith camera backpacks, the Odyssey & Parallax. they are back-panel opening packs and are engineered, when you remove your arms from their straps, to spin the pack around to your front on the waist strap and open up like a tray for access. this way you don't even have to take the pack off to get at your gear.

I wish the Sequence was like this, because I prefer it's slim profile for boarding. you can sort of get away with this on the Sequence as long as you don't unzip the panel all the way. the Parallax/Odyssey have waist straps mounted to the sides of the pack and not the back panel itself so you don't take the risk of dumping your gear all over the snow like with the Sequence.

of course, with these two camera-oriented packs, you don't get the ski/snowboard carry options that the Sequence/Zoom have.

Yeah, that feature is nice to have. My "Sequence" is actually a Dakine Ridge pack with a camera block inside. The ridge is essentially the same pack but the zips do not extend all the way to the bottom. This gives you the ability you described to flip the pack round with the waist belt attached and open it like a tabletop, but means th block doens't integrate perfectly with the pack. I don't know why my pack is like this - it's definitely a Ridge pack with the "Sequence" embroidery on it. The snowboard shop forgot to charge me when my dad picked it up for me, so I'm not complaining!

I agree on the Lowepro Sling. Make sure that you get the new Sling 300 as it is the only one large enough to hold your MkII with the 70-200 attached.

I'm not sure I understand the last couple comments, but for what it's worth...

She loves the suit and says it's the warmest suit she has ever owned (I used 100oz thinsulate instead of the thinner stuff that the store bought suits have). It has pockets where 'she' wants them, made of flannel like 'she' likes them, plus a velcro strap on the arm to hold her goggles, and a trail map pocket high enough above the waist that it's easy to get to when sitting on the lifts.

Neither of us are or have ever been bmw fans. I must be missing something here because I diidn't understand the comment.

I have it and a toploader zoom. I have used the sequence on the slopes it is big and if skiing inbounds or yoyoing it is a pain as it needs to be removed. I forgot the chest harness for the toploader and have not used it. I am thinking of gettin a pelican case to hold my 30d and 24-105 and toss it in my smaller ski touring pack.
