The camera arrived...ALREADY!!
Samys has delivered for me in a BIG way.

Some of you questioned if these were legit Factory Refurbished or customer returns reboxed.

From all appearances these ARE Factory refurbished. In Canon packaging, The box is clearly Marked "Canon" as well as "refurbished". There was a Canon sticker holding the box closed that also says Canon all over it.

Inside the box.... let me put it this way...had the "refurbished" markings on the box Not been there, everything would pass as NEW.

Camera Body is flawless,LCD unmarred, new books, new battery, cables, charger, software etc...

Those of you holding off may want to jump on these, I called Howard at Samys to thank him, and he told me they have but a few left!

A few simple quick pics indicate it DOES function....NOW its time to dive in!!

OK, you talked me into it! I've been waiting until I could afford one, and I'm afraid it looks like my time has arrived.

If only I had ordered yesterday, I'd be using it today. Got overnight shipping for a total of $1480. Now I have to figure a way to sell my G2 for that amount... just kidding. I probably will have to hide the thing from my wife for awhile, however, or at least until I sell the G2 and some other stuff to make bank account room for it. :)

I may be naive, well actually there's no question about that, but I've always thought refurbished stuff had an edge on factory goods in that they have have been bench checked by a technician.

Good imaging.

Same here

D30 was shipped from LA at 3pm yesterday and arrived here in DC at 9am today - for $30 - no thats good service. !

As Mark said - everything looks perfect. A brief run through reveals everything working correctly. great deal at $1450.

can anyone recommend a few test that will verify that everything works as it should ?

Went at lunch and picked up a 28 - 70 2.8L to try over the weekend (from the local Ritz store). I plan on returning for full refund and then buying from delta if i like it (judging by the lens someone has done that before me)

Thanks to Howard at Samy's - i would recommend him/them strongly based on this experience

However, I got a refurbished computer once from Compaq that wouldn't even boot into Windows. Couldn't even use the QuickRestore CD to fix it.

Obviously, nobody had checked THAT one before shipping it back out -- or it failed in transit.

Still, I use that argument on my wife whenever I buy something refurbished. "Honey, it's just something that's already BEEN fixed -- so I've got a better chance of getting a good one!"

You've all been suckered in now. Got the D-30 for cheap, but you'll soon catch the dreaded L-lens disease!

If you wish to avoid it, just buy the 50/1.4 and 28-135 IS, and NEVER, EVER listen to anybody who says that an L-lens is better. ;)

Enjoy the camera!

Most of the people I've known who have bought any Compaq, new or refurbed, have had problems with them. Of course, they do have those cool looking red plastic inserts to make them look like the first Imacs. (that was sarcasm) Thing about it is that Compaq puts out these specs that look like such a great deal on paper, but the computer just doesn't stand up.

Your point is well taken, though. However, I picked up a refurb from B&H last year, and have had nothing but good experiences with it.

Take care

I've bought several refurb laptops from Compaq (CompaqWorks is here in town, and a $100 warranty covers all the laptop for several years, including the screen). Never had any problems with them.

As long as you don't try to seriously upgrade a Compaq, you shouldn't have any problems. "Serious upgrade" also includes installing a new OS, BTW. ;)

I treat laptops as disposables -- figure I'll never upgrade them (other than memory), or ever change the OS. When I need a new one, I go back and buy another. ;)

I build my own desktop systems now, though.

I already have an L lens, thank you very much. Got a 28-70 and a 100-300L. Had them for my EOS 630 which I haven't touched for years now.

All this talk about the bad autofocus... I hope it's at least as good as the EOS 630. If so, I'll be WAY happy.

When I bought my D30, I accidently ordered the lense UPS Ground (motto: dead people move faster than we do) and the camera FedEx. Having the camera and not being able to use it was far worse than not having the camera. I just walked around the house, holding it up to my eye and going "click!" for two weeks. They don't focus worth a flip without the lense, either.

I still wonder, why if it were factory refurbished would it not come with a Canon warranty? In the past, when I have purchased true factory refurbished items, they came with a factory warranty. Usually, the warranty period was shorter, but still it was a company warranty. Any thoughts here?
