Now that I have about 200 high resolution images, which is great for printing, I would like to upload these to other website so that I can share with friends.

The trouble is that the manual process of downsizing each of these images in Photoshop is far too slow and time consuming, is there a software that can batch process images ?

Say you set the image size and it just goes through the set range ?

It would be a super addition

Thank you in advance for any help.

JASC "Image Robot" will do what you wish to do, (and a lot more). If you plan to be doing lots of batch processes, it might be what you need.

In Photoshop 5 and 5.5 at least you can set up a macro that plays back a set of steps. I used it to reduce the size of a directory of images and add my URL to each image. You first record the actions that you do to one image and save the action. You then can play back those actions on a whole directory of images. It was very fast for me.

You can use my DiaShow on:
http://www.homepages.de/[email protected]/en.html
for this. Click the HTML option in the toolbar and set the new size

(This is one of the features which are unlimited, even my App is considered Shareware ;-) )

The trouble with GUI tools is that they can be very time-consuming
to use. The advantage of GUI tools is that you can use them without
ever having to read the manual.

In the old days, before the Mac and its rich cousin, Windows, were
invented, we used to do everything with text-based commands.
We wrote scripts which just made us ever so efficient.

If writing scripts to automate your image processing sounds good
to you, then you should click here:
http://www.wizards.dupont.com/cristy/ImageMagick.html

A sample script that uses Image Magick is here:

Jurgen,

Thank you for the pointer, does your shareware do so in batch fashion, i.e. you point to a group of files and tell it to go through and resize them, while you are having a cup of tea ? If so that is exactly how I like it.

Thank you all for the advices.

The product I use all the time for this batch processing is Ulead SmartSaver Pro.

Also, if you get their Photo manipulation software called Photoimpact, the same tools are in there too! PhotoImpact was only around $79 and downloadable the last time I checked.

Hi Tuan,

you simply select the folder containing all your JPEGs and then you click the HTML option and select a target folder (and some other options like the new size and you need to check the "Link to Originals" option)

That's it.

Then all the pictures gets resized in the new selected folder besides with the thumbnails (original file name preceeded by a "m" and the HTML file)

All the pictures in this folder are now resized and you can copy them somewhere else or edit the HTML file and use all the content directly for your web site

Note: if you check the anti aliasing option in the main settings, this might take a bit longer, but the quality is much better then.

If you have PhotoShop, it has a macro capability - just record the steps that you do to resize an image and then apply it to the batch.

If you won't be bothered making a macro, use Irfanview - a free utility that can do batch resizing - just select the files and process -- leave for coffee and when you return, everything's done.

Cheers!

Thanks, it worked as you said, if a little difficult to figure out, for example setting the picture size, how big is say 500x500.

What else do I get once I register ?

Cheers

Jurgen,
Thanks so much for this shareware. I have a D1 & am a professional photo-
grapher and have been hunting this method. Why doesn't it cost anything?
But thanks again.

Hi Tuan,

the size is the size in pixel (but I'm thinking of adding a relative resizing in percent) The size in inch/cm depends on your DPI (dots per inch) of your device.

(The registration enables the send mail feature and the printing)

Now that I have about 200 high resolution images, which is great for
printing, I would like to upload these to other website so that I can
share with friends.
I use a product called "Thumber" which costs $12 and is available on the web. It not only downsizes the images, it creates the thumbnails and creates the actual webpages for you and can include any of the the various settings about the photos, should you choose. A free version is available for trial that simply is restricted to 10 photos at a time. There are a lot of preferences you can set and it allow you to choose the downsizing as a percentage, or in pixels, even some others.

Hi there,

thanks for the tip, I will check it out, I have been quite impressed with diashow so far from Jurgen.
