Can I buy extended waranty after i opened the box

Is it possible to buy extended waranty after 1 week of purchase ?

I bought the 707 from sears without warranty, they warranty price is 172$ (around that)

Do you think i can buy it from others store like bestbuy ?

I bought my DA from Sears and got their extended warranty. Then I found out that Best Buy sells warranties on other stores cameras. So I returned the Sears warranty and went to Best Buy. They sold me a 4 year (not two like Sears) for 60.00!! They just require you bring in proof of purchase and your camera (with the box) so they can verify it is a working camera.

Best Buy warranty is much better anyway. They cover routine cleanings, which Sears does not, and if they try to fix your camera thrre times and it can't be fixed they give you a new one, where as Sears has tried 10 times to repair my 150.00 DVD player. They have spent like a thousand dollars trying to fix it.

The warranty can be purchased from sears anytime during the original product warranty I believe.

Some Best Buys get sticky and will only sell the warranty the day the product is purchased.

The kind of warranty Sears sell is straight replacement, they do not repair, you come into the store, hand them your camera, they give you a new camera, no questions asked.

Best Buy on the other hand will only repair the camera, it takes usually 3-4 weeks, and will only replace it after that repair process fails to fix the problem three times. So you will have to be willing to live without the camera for up to three months before getting a new one.
The Best Buy warranty is however twice the length of the Sears.
Best Buy sends the cameras to Florida for repair, that is why it takes so long.

I decided to go with the Sears warranty, but I also got it at the 10% instead of the 15% it is a difficult decision.

Here is some ground work.

Sears' plan is PPP ( purchase protection plan) exactly as Dilbert explained. No questions asked. But it runs in parallel to the manufacturer's warranty, Also if you happen to purchased it on the M/C , VISA , Amex , they have extended warranty too ....

For Credit card extended warranty , you pay nothing , just hold on your receipt and you are covered. CC extends the manufacturer's warranty by a year , which should be ok for a digicam . ( which would be a museum model by then )

Dig out the card member agreement you received with the card and see what it offers in the way of an extended warranty (if any) many cards these days (in order to attract customers) are offering extended warranties, sometimes adding a year, sometimes doubling the manuf. warranty. etc. It simply depends on the card you have. If yours offers such a warranty, it will also explain the details on how you would make a claim on it.

the warranty can be purchased 30 days from the day the camera is purchased, even if the box has been opened or not. just bring in your receipt to the register and tell them that you want to purchase the PPP. make sure that the expiration date of your warranty is correct. i was given a 2 year warranty on mine. i've heard that others only received 15 months. maybe you can talk them into giving you a longer contract.

I too turned down the Sears service plan because it was so expensive. I decided to go to Best Buy and see what they could do for me. I asked the service counter and they said that they couldn't do something like that. I decided to try another Best Buy. They gave me the same reply even when I asked to speak with the manager. I had to try yet another Best Buy. I spoke with the girl up front and she called the manager and told them what I needed and they said they only needed to see that the camera was in working condition. Didn't matter when I bought it and they didn't need the box. She initially tried to charge me about $140(supposed to be $60) for a video camera service plan so be careful for that.

If the people up front won't do it, ask to speak with the manager.

I had mixed results with BestBuy and have yet to get the warranty for my camera.

I purchased the camera from Sears and planned on getting BestBuy's warranty. One of the BB salesman even suggested it to me when he couldn't match the price Sears was giving me. (It wasn't that outrageous, but even so)

During the rush of the hollidays, I attempted to go to another BestBuy to get the warranty and was told flat out that they never did and never would sell a warranty on a camera bought somewhere else. They looked at me like I was stupid.

I can understand policies and all but the amazing thing is just hard determined BestBuy was to not have my business. Even after having purchased the camera from Sears they refused to sell me the 707 for anything less than their everyday low price of $999. I would have, at the time, bought it from BestBuy for $899 + $60 for their warranty, but they wouldn't do it. Ironically, they had it on sale the following week for $899 and no, I didn't buy it then.

I have yet to go back to the original guy who told me he could do it but I'm up the creek without an extended warranty if he can't.

Hi :

Call the citi card services. They would give a 800 number of the Mastercard International. Ask the Mastercard , to send you the Extended warranty material... That is what I did...
