I just received the Epson 3800 this week. I bought it to replace my Epson 4000 whose printhead had such clogging problems the head would have to had to be changed for about $1000. Not worth it...
I am really impressed by the quality of the B&W using Epson's profiles. Wow! Even with Colorbyte's ImagePrint RIP, I had troubles getting great B&W prints out of the 4000. The color prints look also nice, but there is less difference in print quality from the Ultrachrome prints than I anticipated. Most prints look nearly equal.
My main question is whether those of you who have used the 3800 have trouble using sheets cut from rolls. I have several of them (Hahnemuehle, Breathing Color, Epson, etc) that I thought would be relatively easy to cut and use, but the requirement for back feeding the 3800 with these thicker media seems to be a major pain (I should have researched better, did not know about the lack of vacuum suction either).
If you have tips on cutting and feeding paper from rolls (do you have to uncurl first, etc), I'd be thankful to know. I'm most concerned about marks left by the printhead over paper that is not laying entirely flat.
Thank you in advance!
