I've only seen the XTi in-person at a store once, but that was before I was considering purchasing it. I remember it being fairly small and portable, but this past weekend I went to Disneyland, and it seemed everone had Canon DSLRs. They didn't look like 30Ds or 5Ds, but they seemed monstrous in size compared to the XTi I remember seeing in-store and to all the pictures I've seen of them in people's hands.

I was wondering if anyone had pictures of the Xt or XTi in their hands at different angles and next to an A620 would be great too to compare size.

Pictures similar to these from the review:

Thanks!

Are you sure that the size of the lens isn't what confuses you the most?

In the stores the camera is used with the kit lens. You can pretty much consider that the smallest sized lens. Most other lenses are bigger and may make the whole camera look bigger.

?? You can't judge from the same reference photos in the A620 review? You can't compare dimensions?

These are different hands :) The XTi review was written by Phil, and the A620 by Simon.

If they were Canons, they may have been 30Ds (or 10Ds or 20Ds). Even though you say they didn't look like it. IF you have picked up a XXD body, you will notice how much larger it is than an XT(i). Even though it doesn't look huge in pictures.

It may also be, like a previous poster said, that the lenses are making the camera look larger. Perhaps they were film bodies.

If you want pics copmparing the size of bodies, you can look at the side-by-side of teh XTi beside the competition. The Nikon D80 is not unlike a 30D size wise. Of if you want to play with your image editor - open the pic you posted of Phil holding the XTi, download the pict of phil holding the 30D. Adjust one pic so the hands are approximately the same size. Than you can see how much larger the 30D is.

Were they 300D's?

I think there are still alot of us using them, and they are bigger than their newer siblings.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I guess I may have been mistaken. They probably were 30Ds after all. (I swear I saw the Rebel logo on a few of them, but that may have just been my imagination assigning that designation to my memory.) I went to a local Ritz and held an XT in my hand and liked the size perfectly.

I've got some pictures of the XTi as compared to the Pro1. Gosh, not only the lens, but also the dang lens HOODS make the littlest DSLR look enormous -- the lens hoods being as large as the Pro1 itself, it seems! Here they are for your amusement:

XTi with EFS 17-55mm IS USM vs. Pro1:

Now with lens hood:

XTi with EF 70-300mm IS USM vs. Pro1:

And now with lens hood:

Never understimate the size of those lens hoods!
