Looks to me like you needed some fill flash, or maybe upping the exposure and ignored the hotspots.

At least on my monitor very (!) dark.

Seems very dark. I large reflector and some slight fill-flash would have helped. Shadows across the face are very tough, unless you're going after a certain effect (wild jungle, etc).

It was my attempt to show why one must follow the rules in portraiture. See this posting http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1005&thread=21413766 of the same gal taken about 15 minutes earlier that same day. I followed most of the rules in that one!
