You have product envy the lot of you :-)

I think you're assuming that everyone already has a digital camera.

I was going to buy the 6900Z, but now they have announced it's replacement I'm going to wait.

a) the replacement should be better
b) if it isn't, the 6900Z will be MUCH cheaper (if I can get hold of one!)

I'm in no hurry...

Aha, a fellow petrolhead :-)

Goodwood - I thought so!! :-) - some nice cars there and loads of photo opportunities in the paddock and on the racetrack too! According to my researches :-) that one's a 1938 Alta 621S, very nice and a little unusual I must admit - took me a while to find it!
I dont think there is this much discussion about new cars except among people involved in selling them or writing editorial about them.. perhaps I am wrong.
Just felt I had to retort to this though!!... you only need to visit one of the popular make bulletin boards (e.g. Lotus, TVR, MG, Subaru, Land Rover etc.) and I think you'll find loads of sad petrolheads (just like me!)discussing new cars at great length!! :-)

Regards,
Caroline

What a place .. that was my first visit and first time with a digicam (as you can probably tell) it will not be my last though ..

Caroline when I wrote that I kind of expected someone to rise to it :-) like a rag to a bull I guess .. you are probably right .. I have trained myself not to get too excited about new items partly so I dont get to dissapointed when I cant afford them etc etc ....

Ok a test .. my favourite of all the racecars i badly photographed that day was this grean mean racing machine.. so what is it?

More like MSDOS using the text editor...that's why you need MS office

The new fuji cameras are far far far better than the ones they replace
I am really surprised to see so much talk about some new cameras
which only exist at the moment in a press release.

Even before that there was as much talk about whether the 6900 etc
was dead or not ... there is a shortage, there are other cameras,
people who have a 6900 can make great photos already people with
other cameras can also, people who want a camera now cannot get one
of these, are you really going to upgrade your 6900 to the new one?
will your computer be able to handle the larger file size or will
you have to upgrade that as well?

I still use MS office pro 3.1 in a win95 machine sometimes because
there is little that I do in later versions that you could not do
in that one and I have rarely seen anyone using more than 20% of
the capabilities of this suite. Is it not the same with these
cameras? If you need more than a 6900 then do you not really in
fact need a pro slr camera?

Surely you have one or you dont, if you have one you like it or you
dont. Thats that.

I dont think there is this much discussion about new cars except
among people involved in selling them or writing editorial about
them.. perhaps I am wrong.

See how much fun you can have with old things below:
Sorry about the bad pic I have been looking at better ones taken
with pinhole cameras :-)

Perhaps some cheese with the whine around here?

I think Fuji could have pleased these Negative Nellies by replacing the 6900 with a 1 megpixel camera with a wind up camera with a pinhole lens and charged them double....would they be happy then?....I think not....they would be in uproar.

Talk about resistance to change....sheesh

Good lord- what people will post to justify their purchase and make themselves feel good ....a purchase that most of the world cannot afford because they cannot afford to eat.

And then to top it off.....they are hooking their Fuji to a PC. If they put half the effort into researching their PC purchase as they evidentally did for their camera by arriving at the Fuji desk.....how could they wind up with a Windoze machine instead of the elegance of the Mac?

I use a Mac for everything I can...the Windoze machine for those damn insurance programs I must use for work that only run on the PC....

I love the folks that work their heads off coming up with creative new ideas and designs to give us this fabulous new technology....its obviously very hard to run profitable company in todays economic environment....let give them even more credit than they are due to keep them motivated......GO FUJI.

I love this forum and all you posters but it would be refreshing to see some praise for all the advances and/or some constructive criticism of the new features we can share in and a little less self centered justification of their last purchase.

Peace be with you

David

I have no idea what you mean :-) no really !
Talk about resistance to change....sheesh
Fuji are doing great with their products and upgrades, the original post was in response to seeing so many whines about the 6900 not being available anymore which is the inevitable result of progress.

I dont know what your point about resistance to change is about, I wanted to make the point that while whatever you buy will shortly be obsolete especially in electronics, when you do return to buy again the products will have evolved in probably 2 3 or 4 incremental improvements so you will notice the improvement in probably most areas.
Good lord- what people will post to justify their purchase and make
themselves feel good
That is pretty much what I think I was responding to David.

For myself I just bought a camera, the most expensive I could afford and am learning to use it, it is way way better than I am and will be for some time. By the time I have learnt how to use it properly and started reaching its limits I am sure Fuji will be selling a mind blowing product which will be great to upgrade to.
....a purchase that most of the world cannot
afford because they cannot afford to eat.
And that is a scandal plus the number that are dying from Aids right now, while we discuss the merits of digital cameras David!
But that is not what this place is for no?
And then to top it off.....they are hooking their Fuji to a PC. If
they put half the effort into researching their PC purchase as
they evidentally did for their camera by arriving at the Fuji
desk.....
Actually, there you go putting the brand "fuji" on top which is the same as putting a specific camera on top, which is what got me going in the first place.

I have been looking at piles of truly inspiring pictures from people posting in the range of dpreview forums and the one thing that none of the photographers whose websites I have bookmarked as being special have in common is one type, make or model of camera.
how could they wind up with a Windoze machine instead of
the elegance of the Mac?
I use a Mac for everything I can...the Windoze machine for those
damn insurance programs I must use for work that only run on the
PC....
Never having been a Mac user I can guess that the majority of graphics folk can't all be wrong. There must be something in it :-)

For some of us buying PC is a primarily economic decision as is staying a couple of versions behind the latest in many walks of life.
I love the folks that work their heads off coming up with creative
new ideas and designs to give us this fabulous new
technology....its obviously very hard to run profitable company in
todays economic environment....
You are so right ..
Peace be with you
