One thing (stupid as it may be) in favour of the S2, it comes WITH
the IEEEE cable.

A lesson for Nikon. How much will they charge us for Capture 3?

Excuse my ignorance, but what is an IEEEE cable and why is it a good thing to have?

IEEE 1394 is the firewire standard which is faster than USB, serial, or parallel connections for the transfer of data from the camera/CF card to the PC/MAC. In the case of the Nikon D1 series, it is used to download photos and provide camera control with the software program Nikon Capture 2. Nikon charges extra for both the cable and software; hence, the poster's comment.

Many thanks Trent

Just 1 further question. Does my computer need an IEEEE port, like USB, parallel etc or can one of these other ports be used. If I need a port, can it be added like most peripherals, as a board you insert into the computer?--Clive

uh..... never had a D1(x/h) in my hand, but it seems to me someone without firewire could simply take the CF-card out of the camera and put it into a reader for CF connected to a computer.

I am not sure though if the Capture software can read the picture from the CF-card that way. Anyone?

Sure. That is the way most of us who do not have firewire do it.

then it is not so strange Nikon does not put a cable in the box, saves a few bucks again that can be passed to the buyer. I like that thinking....
