When I have shot as much pictures so that my Nikon 32 MB card is nearly full (my 3-years old Lexar card of much higher capacity does not work with the camera!!!) and then go to playback mode, the camera is significantly slower in showing the pictures in full when switching between pictures. Is this normal (like with computer harddiscs)? I never noticed this with my old CP 990 (which I sold already); obviously because this one worked with the Lexar and therefore I never was forced to use the full capacity.

Any comments appreciated.

Hi Eric,

Since no one has responded..why not (if you haven't done so already) give Nikon Tech support a call. Nikon recommends Lexar cards in the manual as being one of the best cards to use with this camera...so it sounds quite strange.

Good Luck,

Carmen

Thanks for your ideas, but I am German -based - a" sevice desert" compared to the US.We do not even have a Nikon Tech Support you could call quickly by phone - you have to drop in the camera to Nikon Germany if you have problems!

I have no problem with the fact that the Lexar card does not work in the 5000 (it is an old card I purchased with my CP 900! and it still works in my Canon Digital Ixus), but my main issue is:

Is it normal that speed gets significantly slower in play mode if a CF card is - say 80-90 % - full?

Reformat the card in the camera and try again.
What you describe is not normal.

You can´t even reformat the card in the camera-it does dosplay that the card inserted is not suitable and the menu point "Format" cannot be selected. I tried to reformat the card with my Ixus and a card reader, but: the card does only work in the Ixus.
