Hi people,

I´ve been working on my own set of denoisers since I got 'serious' with digital cameras. I´ve ended up with an OK solution, based on many years of Photoshop experience as a graphic designer.

When I was happy with my actions, I started to check the market for denoise actions, and found it very saturated, which kept me from publishing my own set. However, feedback from a selected test crew has been overwhelming, so I´ve decided to share it anyway.

Included in the set are a few other handy tools I often find myself using.

Yu can download and read about it here: http://www.2morrow.dk/75ppi/coolpix/actions/

It is free ofcourse.

Feedback appreciated.

Hi,
Thanks Mathias,

works well on my coolpix 990, very subtle (haven't triedhigh iso modes) but certainly beneficial.
This replaces my catelog of denoiseing actions i've built up over the years ;-)

Hi Cassandra,

I´ve tested it on a PC, but PC and Mac are the same in Photoshop terms, so that should be no obstacle.

It is intended to run on Photoshop 6. I don´t know if it will run on older versions, although there is nothing PS6 specific about the action, Adobe has made some changes in behaviours that is out of my control.

You´re welcome to test it on older versions if you like.

Mathias
Mathias,

Will this work on a PC or Mac or both? With what version(s) of
Photoshop?

Hallo Mathias,

Thank you VERY much for your generosity. I tried it quick on a noisy photo and it looked quite good to me. I'll post examples when I get a chance...

Hi Cassandra,

Feedback from others have shown that it will not run on Photoshop 5.x.

Sorry.

Seems like EVERYBODY is running an older version of Photoshop :-(

Maybe I´ll spend some time next week making a PS5.x version...

Mathias
Hi Mathias,

One more question before I try downloading your denoiser to try it
in PS5. Does it require a lot of system resources to run it? I have
an older Pentium with plenty of RAM but some newer programs don't
work well on it. thanks

I have compared your action against jes and lueck's and yours seem to be on top with excellent noise performance, color retention, detail preservation.

Hi Mathias,

Great actions! Thanks!

A possible bug?

The UnderExposed action has an error? It tries to delete a layer that does not exist... I turned off the last 2 steps to find the problem.

That´s a bug, Jerry. Thanks! It will be fixed in the next version along with some other small adjustments.

I will announce it when it´s ready.

Nice!

here's a comparison to the original image, one with this denoiser applied (deluxe + Mid-ISO) and Fred Miranda's ISODeNoise freeware action:

Hi Matthias,

I have read what those who have tried your actions say about them and I really got envious. I have only got PS 5.5 and PS 5.0 so I can't use them. I really hope you will be able to convert them to fit older versions of PS than 6.0 and also for Mac. You said they should work for both PC and Mac, but on download sites they say about actions that some are for Mac and some for PC. Most for PC of course. So I guess all won't work on both platforms.

Bye,

Eva

Hej Eva,

I´ve thought about re-making it for Photoshop 5.x, but I´ve reached the conclusion that it would simply take too much work to keep two different versions updated. Sorry.

Think of it as another new feature of Photoshop 6. (Although it is not Photoshop 6 specific :-( ), and blame Adobe for not thinking straight.

It should work on PS6 on a Mac, though.

I would be prepared to pay for a plug-in version of this action--I'm using PS Elements (sometimes Paint Shop Pro). I bet many others would also be interested. It's asking a lot, but maybe you can look into this idea?

That's great that you posted your actions on your Web site with detalied instructions. Thanks for taking the time to help out other people.

I just tried out noise removal on one photo, and it seemed to work well. It didn't get rid of a lot of noise, but seemed to be working like you said, without taking away detail. My Olympus camera is very noisy and your action looks like a good first step for my photos. When I enlarge photos for printing noise is annoying.

Hi Mathias.

Excellent actions. Thanks for posting them - and for the detailed explanation of what they do.

Fedest! :-)

Kind regards,
Hans
