My daughter wanted to enter the local 4-H photo contest (it's tomorrow). So I gave her some pointers on the basics - watch your background, fill the frame, be careful of the light, be patient.... So we took her Cades Cove in the Great Smokey Mountain National Park. She was so cute stalking the deer that I couldn’t resist a few shots of her in action.

Later, I was on this forum and saw a post of a young gator just back from a swim. I showed her the picture and explained how sometimes it’s best to get a low angel of your subject rather than shooting it standing up. On our next outing I noticed that she had heard that lesson :}

I'm just glad she wsn't photographing gators!!!

Brian K,

Looks like she is off to a good start! Do you live near the Smokeys or were you there on vacation? I just recently visited the Cades Cove between Xmas and New Years. Really a beautiful spot. I could not believe all of the wildlife!

We live about 60 miles from Cades Cove. When I got the new camera I just HAD to schedule a trip out there. The deer were amazing and very cooperative. Several more of my pictures are on pbase at:

We must have just missed each other. Our last trip was Jan. 2nd. I would love to see some of your results. Are they posted?

Thanks for your comments. She enjoyed reading them to us.--Brian K http://www.pbase.com/otfgallery/brian_khttp://www.pbase.com/briank

It's especially nice to see young people getting involved in a hobby such as this. I truly think that it makes a person more aware of the natural beauty that we are surrounded by every day.

It's a shame that sometimes we just get so caught up in our day-to-day problems that we stop seeing it.

Good luck with the contest!!!
Very nice Picture story. She is on her way.

Good work Dad!

I'm always proud to see parents spending quality time and doing quality things with their kids. You should be proud. You are teaching your child to look at the world ... to really look at the world. What better thing could one do? Thanks for a very refreshing story and pics.

Ergo summed it up well, having children and coming from a big family I can relate.

Great Job !!--DomDP-NJC-2100UZ http://www.pbase.com/domdp 'The quality of your life is determined by how you feel at any given moment. How you feel is determined by how you interpret what is happening around you, not by the events themselves.' --Brian Tracy--
