I don’t know if it is just me but I sort of get the impression that people don’t really like sparrows that much. I happen to be a huge fan of them and thought it might be a good idea to see everyone’s sparrow pictures.

I will start out with a shot I took recently of one of my favorite species of sparrow, the LeConte’s Sparrow.

Canon Digital Rebel XTi w/ EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM @ 400mm

Beautiful shots. I especially like the perch they chose. We have House Sparrows here but they are generally unwanted in these parts as they are non-native and are pretty good at out-competing some of our native species.

Interestingly your House Sparrows don’t even fall into the same family as the little LeConte’s.

Hi Greg,

Very nice shot.

I never realized Sparrows were that colorful.

I have a couple of pics and I'm not sure but I believe they are Sparrows.

Most of my bird pics are larger birds in flight but I find that I am getting interested in shooting smaller stationary birds.

Thanks for the thread and here are my 2 pics.

Very nice!

Your first bird appears to be a female House Sparrow.

The second appears to me to be a Black Phoebe which is a flycatcher but still a very neat bird to see!

I was pretty impressed the first time I got some good photos of a sparrow. I hadn’t realized how colorful they can be either and I was delighted with all the colors and patterns that they have.

Here’s another of my favorite sparrow species.

Great set Lou.

I agree with your ID’s and will add that I think your first and third birds are Song Sparrows and your forth looks like a male House Sparrow.

Song Sparrows are a bit tougher to come by here in the Houston area than they are in much of the US so I haven’t managed many decent pictures of them.

This is one of my better efforts at Song Sparrows so far:

Thanks for posting! I wish I could get such nice sparrows in my back yard. So far the only sparrow species I have seen visiting my back yard are the House Sparrows.
