Hi,

I've been trying to buy a G2 in Australia since November, and just keep getting told later and later arrival dates for the next batch.

Has anyone in Australia actually managed to buy a new G2 this year?

A thread posted a week or so ago said that new shipments were scheduled for this month, but I've heard nothing more...

tks,
Russell

I've seen a quite a few shops in Melbourne with G2's on display but didn't check stock. (a few Ted's stores, and three different Kodak Express shops)

Not much help I know, but they are around the place.......

Cheers Tim..

Thanks for the info guys.

I am actually in Brisbane, so I rang around and guess what.... all sold out.

This is one incredibly popular bit of technology.

I have a deposit with a particular retailer, and he's been told not to expect anything now till the end of Feb. (another month delay)

--------Bitter mode on

I know Oz is just an agency country, and Canon can probably sell all the product it can make into America, but it'd be nice if they could at least honour their back orders.

--------Bitter mode off

I wonder whether I can get an S40 or a Pro90 easier?

sigh

Russellc,

Hang in there mate. Think of this way, if you decided on another camera and when they do have the g2 in stock you would be wondering did I do the right thing. Also that here in America it's a very high demand camera too and hard to find in stock with so many retail stores and online stores.

Tin is right russel. Went through the same fiasco here in europe. Except my bitter mode lasted longer. I think Canon is having trouble stocking it worldwide. Eventually when you get your hands on it youll be happy.

nah, by then (post-february) the Pro90/G2 hybrid will be out (note i didnt say Pro90 successor)- 5MP, 5 or 7x zoom, slightly improved image processing, features etc, $2400 AUD and we'll all be rushing to sell our G2s on eBay...

even thought this new camera (Pro 100?) won't be in retail stores til june/july, and will be incredibly undersupplied, then in october the G3 will come out, then when it's widely available the Pro150...

hehehe

True but I guess in a few years youll look back and compare it to getting a computer. Now that they are reaching 2Ghz me agonizing over a 33MHz or a 66MHz computer a few years ago seems silly.
