NO 1D's being delivered???

I purchased a 1D earlier this month from Ritz but still havent received it yet. They keep saying that they will be sending it out on their next shipment since about 2 weeks ago.

I share your pain. I spoke with the local shop where I am #1 on their list. They got two cameras at the beginning of jan and none since (I was #3). They said that the process of who gets a camera is determined by canon and that canon is delivering cameras to news organizations first. A paper in fort worth got 10 cameras, the entire alotment for texas. The story is that will continue to be the case until there all orders from news organizations have been filled.

While that's really annoying it might be very bright:

Assume you are a landscape guy nature guy, maybe somebody like micheal reichmann. You want the 1D but with more pixels, and less fps. If you bought a 1D and then, 6 weeks later canon announces a 1D-S (6mp/3fps) you might be pretty annoyed. In order to make everybody happy canon would be wise to sell their cameras to the PJ crowd where they are really needed AND where the people will continue to be happy with them after canon announces some new higher-res camera.

It's interesting to me that micheal reichmann is well liked by canon, they gave him a 1D to play with and he said 'nice camera but I'll wait for something with more megapixels' (I'm paraphrasing here). I'm assuming

he's not hurting for cash and has lots of use for his equipment. Even the non MP upgrades in the 1D would seem to be worth it to him (AF, water-proofing, durability, better high ISO performance, etc.)

He knows things we don't know and he's decided to wait. now THAT IS A FREAKING CLUE.

I would be waiting for whatever he's waiting for but my d30 got swiped and I need a new camera. I don't want to buy a d30 only to replace it in 90 days. that's why I'm sitting around here reading this dumb forum scanning for news of 1D deliveries instead of taking pictures.

The 1D-S was mentioned in one of the rumors on this forum, I am not confirming such a rumor though I do hope for 2 6mp cameras at PMA, one pro in a 1D body and one non-pro in a eos-3 body.

I know that Pictureline sold everyone they had and have huge backorders. they also put 12 new people on staff as they have 2 locations that will be at the Olympic locations as well, so I sure wouldn't expect to get one from them anytime soon.
From what I have been gathering on different forums, no EOS 1D's
are being delivered. Does anyone have a clue as to why? i have been
in a queue from 3 different camera shops for as long as 2 months
now. "Wa hapen????"

Heard from my local dealer in Washington, DC that it may be end of Feb. before anyone gets any cameras. Eek!

I honestly thought that by the time the Olympics started, demand would cool and getting the camera would be easier. I'm praying I'm still right, but doubt it.

I have had two separate shots at the 1D. The gentleman from Canoga Cameras called me up on the 29th of December and I missed them by about 1 hour (I was shooting at a wedding and did not get home until late)...so much for my end of year write off. I got a call from pictureline the other day asking if I was still interested also. At this point, I plan on purchasing from Canoga as the folks there have just been spectacular. Mr Noble seems to run a great business. Just amazingly nice people.

The other thing that MAY be holding the cameras back is some gentleman posted something about a Canon recall of the 1D. I do not know if it is true and don't like to just pass idle speculation - but who knows. It may be accurate. It would be a good thing it is true as it means that Canon is fixing the banding problem (the main reason I have not purchased it yet).

As of now, I would hold off a short while and see what happens at PMA...both to see prices drop for the 1D and to compare it to whatever Canon comes out with at PMA. If Canon comes out with an Elan focus system and a 6 MP system, it MIGHT just be worth not getting the 1D. The Elan AF is ok - though nothing on the 1V. Anything is better then the D30's.

Anybody else order a 1D from Ritz? Any luck?
I ordered my 1D the 14 of this month and was promised it early this week - I was no 17 on the list and they were expecting 20 units by last Friday - now I am no 20 on the list (what happend there ???) and they are expecting deliver of x number of units this week .....

Sounds like the exact same problem Im getting from them.

Ive read in this forum that their might be a software fix going on so thats why the delay, I hope this is true.

EXCELLENT question, ...so how 'bout you ask THEM, and tell us what they say?

That's the kind of treatment that would have me shopping elsewhere!

I feel all places selling the 1D is having the same backorder problem. The good thing about Ritz is that they dont charge shipping for items over $ 100.00, Im sure being the price of the 1D is $ 5500 the shipping would be a big amount. They also dont charge your card until they ship the camera.

DMS,

Maybe I wasn't clear enough: A dealer having to backorder is no big deal.

Passively being shoved further-down on a waiting list is what I was questioning :-(

robbie,

I think yours was a well-reasoned post. I am waiting with Michael Reichmann. I just yesterday watched his Video-Journal with the 1D review, and his comment about "waiting".

Wholeheaertedly(and hopefully) agree about the "clue".

Something good is coming :-)

Today (Friday), Ritz told me that Canon is slowing their shipments to the dealers, about 1-2 a month. They did not give a reason for the delay. Hopefully Canon's updating the camera / software.

Anybody have another source that has 1D's readily available or fast on shipping besides Ritz?

My local shop told me that they would not be getting anything new in until March sometime.

He said Canon was shipping anything and everything to the Olympics.

Is the 1D delay due to the Olympics, software update or maybe both?
