So, after a lot of sound advice re. how to shoot a live spider, and following none of those recommendations, I opted for a different approach.
Spiders and wine glasses work fairly well ...

Clear wine glass, filled with sand/grasses makes it possible to get a decent shot or two. Oh, DO cover the top of the wine glass so that the spider don't try to escape :D

No person or beast (besides my fear levels) was/were hurt in this shoot :). Released the willing subject out into the wild (my garden, actually) after, and he scurried off in search of, well ... spider things?

So, with no further ado then,
SPIDER IN WINE GLASS:

Walking All Over ME:

the SANDSTORM: - the remnants of the sand added to the glass added quite an interesting effect IMO

the UNDERCARRIAGE: that's what happens when he walks up the side of the clear glass :)

the GREEN EYE: - First time I've seen a green eye. Anyone else?

There ya go, how to shoot a live spider then.
C&C welcome.

Man, they've just blown me away. Great angles especially the 1st. It looks like something that would have to be drawn because of the angle, outstanding! These are your best macros yet, Kevin.... Imo of course.:)

... pls share a summary of equipment and lenses used - thanks!
Hi. In the middle at the bottom of each pic ;)

Speechless maybe? I'm still in awe od that 1st shot. Maybe you should enter it into a comp or something...it deserves it.

great shots, Kevin. It looks like a huge caterpillar driving over my right foot, damn, it was my left foot...

Actually, I was left speechless. I truly looked at those shots and went wow! I guess I was overwhelmed with the task of commenting on those pictures - too little time.

Now, to humor you I could work on an angle here but.... well.....hummmm. Nope, If only you were actually a crappy photographer. Then I could say things you haven't heard. But alas that is not an option either.

Love the pictures! I have not read through all of the postings- just wondering what lens you used to accomplish these photos? I am trying to do some macro work and am brand spanking new to this all! I have a D70

'green-eye reduction' on your flash setting!

Well, if ya don't believe that, you should see the pics I've taken of my dog, with a flash--his 'brown eyes' come out 'green' :=)
Other than that, those are some super shots of that ugly critter!
