How do you clean the LCD display?

I just bought a digital camera and I'm not quite sure how to clean smudges off my LCD display without damaging it.

Is there a special cloth material I should use?

Is there a special coating on it that I should be careful of?

Can I use alcohol wipes on it or would a damp cloth be better?

I have a Canon S110 (ie Ixus V)

Thanks in advance. I appreciate any input.

Scotch tape works great for removing fingerprints and other small smudges from LCD. If you want you can also use damp cloth with some mild soap.
Do not use alcohol or any other solvent.

DON'T USE ANY LIQUID!!

I think common eyeglass cloth will do the job. Just don't put too much pressure on the screen and make sure the cloth is free of dirt and blow off all the dirt off the screen first. And I taped a transparency film on my G2 and S100, so I don't need to clean the LCD too often.

Thanks to all who replied. I appreciate your input / suggestions.

I read and followed the manual suggestions, but it didn't quite get the oil smudge from my nose off. That's why I was hoping someone had a better way of doing it. I will give the tape a try, and look for an eyeglass cloth. Thanks.

I have the G1 and I cleaned the LCD display with Lenspen. It's available at Fry's Electronics for $10.

Thanks Don and thanks Thang for the suggestions.

I will go look for a microweave cloth and a lens pen next weekend.

By the way, is the lens pen like an air brush that blows dirt off while I wipe the lens with it? Will it be able to get oil smudges off?

Thanks,
Doogie.

Check out this website: lenspen.com

It has two ends: one end with soft brush you use to brush off the dirt first then the other end has some kind of soft material on a round concave surface that you can use to wipe off the smudge, figer prints, smear... I use this lenspen on all my L lenses and filters. It's the only device that seems to work very well for my camera equipment.

Also, check out this website that talks alot about this device (you will have to do a quick search though)

i bought a lenspen a few weeks ago, i was a bit astonished not to see the foam end being sort of wet... i was expecting some kind of liquid to help cleaning ?!?
is the lenspen always dry?
i'm in doubt, help me :)

Yes the lenspen is alway dry. It uses a carbon based cleaner. When you place it back in the cap and give it a half-twist it cleans the pad and re-applies a bit more cleaning formula.

yes, it's always dry. That's the way it is. Everytime when you close the cap, make sure that you give it half a twist. That way, the chemical inside the cap can get on the foam end.

Wow, I didn't know something like that was out there. That's great.

By the way, I found that Fisher brand microscope lens cleaning paper works pretty well on the LCD and camera lens as well.
