I contacted Tom at http://www.ckcpower.com by email yesterday to ask if he had tested the G2 with the CrystalVue Optics Sharpshooter 8x32 monocular, which has had very good reviews with Nikon Coolpix cameras, but has a smallish 37mm thread. Not surprisingly, he said "the lens of the G2 is not suited for adding anything over a 2x. The lenses I have will vignette too much."

He did however say that he was working on a NEW monocular especially for the G1/G2... to be either 5x or 8x zoom with a 49mm or 52mm thread (YAY!)

However at the moment this is still in the planning stages, so don't expect it to be available for at least a couple of months yet- he hasn't even finalised the specs yet, but should have more information in about 4 to 6 weeks. I suggested he set up a mailing list for interested G2 owners to register on and he said he would do that.

So if you want to be informed when he has more info on this, email [email protected]
i was gonna type something witty here but then i changed my mind.

Warren,

Tom's a great guy and I have purchased several digicams and accessories from him...and will continue to do so in the future. But I also have been asking him about a tele solution for the G1 for about 6 months. His responses have been similar to the one you wrote. It seems like this could go on forever. In other words, don't hold your breath.

Fred

P.S. Hope I'm wrong.

yeah, i heard about using the kenko 8x32 with the A20 a while ago but it seems the lens thread is smaller on the A20, so success with this model has no bearing on using the monocular with the G2... sigh

oh well let's hope tom does come through with some concrete info. the main point of my post was to say if you're interested, then EMAIL [email protected] to be notified... THE MORE EMAILS HE GETS, THE MORE LIKELY HE IS TO ACTUALLY DELIVER A PRODUCT!

(sorry about the shouting, wanted to emphasise that point :)

So cmon all you G2 owners, get involved and show him how much money- erh, how many potential customers he's missing out on...!
Warren checkout this guy who has used a kenko 8x on his Canon A20.

Also check out his other gallery with kenko 2x.

I just emailed him (Tom) yesterday & said I was one of those many g2 owners putting on the heat for the new monocular... :) One question...I am quite a newbie at photography...I've read a lot of good things about the Oly B-300. Now, I understand you wouldn't get the zoom, but would you compare the Crystalvue quality to the Oly overall? From pics I have seen the Crystalvue looks pretty good.
