hi guys.. can you recommend what are the best & useful accessories for H5? i was planning to get a lens but i can't decide w/c of the three (macro, tele, wide) lenses to get. How about filters and flash like ring light?

  1. 1: the manual
  1. 2: Allan's White paper
  1. 3: After using these for awhile you will know the next answer.
It depends on what and how you shoot and you will quickly know when you need more equipment.

Take the scenic route! Life is too short to do otherwise.

I would suggest looking at the wide angle conversion lens. The camera already can do great close-ups and telephotos with the native lens. Another good purchase might be a polarizing filter - again if you like doing landscapes.

if you desire to get an extra bit of zoom in long view situations, such as moving subjects in the long end of their range of movement, like concerts or games or from the side area. To reach moving objects like a small pond or lake.

I can never understand this question because its YOUR shooting that will determine what if any accessories you need.
The best accessory to start with is probably Photoshop Elements.

It's an excellent photo editor that can do almost as much as Photoshop but costs less than $100.00

You need exra rechargeable batteries and a charger. Whatever is on sale will do. Not much use spending a ton of money on this. They are only cheap batteries.
Other than that, good luck and have fun

How have you used the camera?

If you have not owned and done considerable expermenting for six or more months you are not ready for any additional lenses etc. yet.

Learn the camera fore and aft.

I just looked and see you just joined a week ago.

Ride along with us for a while if you haven't much camera experience.

Try and duplicate things you see on the forum that don't need additional goodies.

Ask questions as to how they did this or that.

Of course if you are loaded with cash and can't wait buy it all. ;-)

you're right guys i'm just a newbie and i know i haven't learn much in photography and with my camera but the reason i was asking you because my brother will be coming home from the states this xmas season. i live in the philippines where sony accessories like lenses cost double the US price, so i wanted to grab the opportunity of having to get them for a low price and i will never know when he'll be back home again so better get it now. I don't want to buy all of the accessories due to budget constraints & off course I may not be able to use it that's why i asked you guys w/c accessories are the "best & useful". I see myself as a casual photographer and i still don't have any particular subject yet like nature, insects, games etc. i just want my camera to be at least capable of capturing anything eventhough it's not a dslr :)

jerry: i find your suggestions very helpful for me to decide w/c one to get. i really don't know the capability of the H5 lens b/c i'm a newbie but now i know that h5 can do great macros & telephotos w/ the native lens so i'll get the lens w/c the native lens can't do.. thanks a lot

qball: regarding the tele lens... since i'm a newbie and have not much time, I haven't read much in photography & H5 except for aakatz whitepaper, the manual & basic photography 101 website.. i still don't understand the sizes of zoom lenses.. so my question is, if the H5 has a maximum 12x optical zoom... how many more "x" zoom will be added in my H5 using the sony teleconversion lens? i've read that the teleconversion lens is 1.7x and i know that it will not be 12x + 1.7x right? so what will be the computation?

Hi and welcome.

I agree that it may be worth you getting the teleconverter VCL-DH1758 and Sony VCL-M3358 now. If you ever go to a zoo, want surfing pictures or get into birding/candids, you will not regret it!

H1 + 1.7X adapter: 432 mm X 1.7 = 734.4 mm

I don't think I can add anything to this:

I'm a newbie also but here are my suggestions:
1) A set of batteries.
2) Camera bag
3) Good tripod

Lenses depend on what photos you plan on taking:

1) Telephoto for outdoor, sports, and anytime I have to be farther than 8x will allow me. This way, I don't have to chase the subject.
2) Wide Angle for family or group pictures

Hope this helps - Nito
