Hi gang,

I just finished sending an e-mail to the president of Canon USA, Mr. Kinya Uchida.

I outlined our concerns about the S20 and the S10, and provided links to some of the sample pictures.

I suggested that since the poor quality of his company's products are affecting sales and the reputation of Canon, that it is imperative that his company acknowledge the problems, and provide a release date for a firmware upgrade in the very near future.

Keep those calls going to 1-800-OK-CANON, folks -- we've got to attack this from all sides. I'll let you know when (and if) Mr. Uchida writes back.

Hi,

Nice going I'm sure he will send a gold plated S30,
and ask you to send special e-mail's to Bill Gates and Steve Jobs
warning of the mass consumer uprising to come.

Im sure canon developers are fully aware of the issues, front line
staff we get to talk to have limited access to the information
until its ready for release - only internal "yeah on the case"
messages...

At least he is trying to do something about it instead of just lurking in the forums for opportunities to be smart ass, for which there are many. Go bug the Nikon guys and try and figure out why that thing swivels and get back to us...

Mike,

I find your extremely sarcastic response to my work on trying to help ALL Canon owners out objectionable. It took a good deal of work for me to determine and deduce the President's email address (it is not freely published), and a good deal of time for me to write the letter.

Personally, I have had positive experiences in the past dealing with companies in this manner, and believe me it certainly can't hurt to do what I'm doing.

If you're not going to be part of the solution, at least don't be part of the problem.

Hey Jeremy -

Mark it on your list - Mike has lost any credibility if he complains about the color cast problem. He'd rather spit semi-literate venom at people who want to make things better for everyone, rather than take part and help out or at least sit back and SHUT UP. Of course, if people like you and I don't speak up, all the S30s in our future will have the same blue-cast problem.

Perhaps we've discovered the true identity of Francis . . .

Keep up your efforts, Jeremy - a lack of "testicular fortitude" on the part of some shouldn't dissuade positive-minded people from trying to seek improvements.

Why don't you put the email address of Canon's president here on the forum - I'll drop him a note myself.

I for one am extremely appreciative of the majority of those who post on this forum!

I have read and studied the posts ever since the S-10 came out. I am looking to get my

first digicam and size/portability as well as top notch foto quality are my requirements.

From the research and time you have all spent I know I would be super happy with either an

S-10 (if the flash issue were fixed) or an S-20 (if the color balance issue were fixed). So daily

I watch for the latest news and findings. I am ready to buy, and have been for 6 months (obviously

I have other cameras/film that I'm covering my photo needs with in the interim). I really have

gotten to know and feel the personalities of those who post and I must say for the most part you are

all great, fun, caring and helpful people. For example, Hide, here's a guy who really cares about

other people and genuinely shows its through his messages. Jeremy you seem to be a person along the
same vein. Keep up the good work and trying to help others.

The amazing thing to me is that there is an incredible amount of valuable info posted here daily,

and if Canon just listened to a little bit of it, they would have the killer camera!!! Also, they could let

some of their R&R people go because so many of you are doing what they should be. This is the age where

you can get instant feedback and almost instant results. This forum is the place where loyal (trying to

be) Canon people express their true feelings about their cameras and whats going on with them
in everyday, real life photography situations.

I don't even own an S series yet but I also want Canon to fix these problems, then they would have
a world beater camera for new camera owners as well as pros!

Jeremy,
It does seem I touched a raw nerve here and I will apologize for that.

I DO apreciate the work you are doing to try to rectify the problems
the s10/s20 is having and fully apreciate the time you have spent
discovering the correct email address for the canon president.

As an S10 owner myself I've had once in a life time shots spoilt by the
blurred flash issue. I (tried) to point out how the whole firmware
issue seems to be the main fixation these days with an indirect reference
to the software os world. (crash, upgrade, service pack, repeat..)

I have posted odd bits of information regarding things Ive been doing
with my s10 - Zeiss Monocular, pentax Loupe, laser focus light etc, and
have equally found other users comments interesting.

BR,
Mike.

While I appreciate the efforts of Jeremy and all those who have put their efforts into this (including myself cuz I have called Canon to support this cause, too), I do think that there's validity to what Mike has said.

I, too, feel that the developers at Canon are well aware of the problems with all their cameras. However, the only thing that will get them to modify their products is either extremely negative publicity (which does not seem to be the case currently, as there are many happy S10 and S10 owners out there), or significant drop in sales (in which case, Canon's distributors will let Canon know the hard way). All I'm saying here is that we shouldn't raise our hopes too much just because more Canon customer reps are receiving phone calls of complaints. The best way to get Canon to act is not to buy their cameras, or to return your S10 and S20s, because that's when Canon will be forced to act to correct these problems. We can no longer assume that Canon will provide us with a firmware based on customer service, because we have waited long enough to see that this is indeed not the case, and there's little reason why we should believe that this will be the case in the future.

Having said that, please don't bombard me with insults because I have called Canon to let them know of the problem; I'm just offering an alternate point of view here.
