I think that I never like taking pictures before digital because I wear glasses all the time to see like a foot in front of me.

I went to play with the new Alpha and I realized that I forgot this since I always use my LCD on my F828.

Is there a solution to having smudged up glasses when using a veiw finder ??

There are no stupid questions except the ones not asked. Remember that and please be kind. LOL

Hello, MicheleP!

The good thing is that the image appears on the lcd after you shoot the picture! If you are not satisfied, you compose and try it again! With the AF, SSS, and the correct lens and settings (barring you don't have any issues with your camera that you haven't found) all of the problems will be on you! Just make sure they are not smudged when you start. Are contact lenses and issue?

i wear glasses, and also hate to have the smudged!

I adjusted the diopter on the viewfinder (i have the km 5D and 7D, but the A100 should also have a diopter) so that i don't have to put my eye up to the viewfinder. I ust keep my eye a short distance away. Strangly enough, this actually works, and once i got comfortable with it, don't even notice it.

the viewfinders on the km and sony aren't that big anyway, so this doesn't lose as much as you might think...

i thought the anglefinder vn might help, but i haven't even used it yet, since this works so well.

What you want is an "Eyepiece Corrector". They add or subtract diopter correction to the built-in adjustment of the A100 camera.

I need extra strenght and so added a +2 diopter to my camera. I now can see prefectly without glasses through the camera viewfinder. The only down side is that you have to take your glasses off. I use one of those leather eyeglass chains that hold the glasses.

Thanks everyone. The Zig thingie is expensive.

Doesn't anyone else have this problem when you use the view finder with glasses....the glasses get smushed up to your face. Then they are all smeared ?? I hate that....LOL

I always use the LCD on my F828 because of this problem. So thinking of moving up to the Alpha I will need to figure a inexpensive solution.

Contacts are not an option anymore......use to wear them, but my eyes are to bad both ways now and I don't want to deal with the hassles of wearing them and adding reading glasses.

I have the same problem. So far i have just been dealing with it.
I think the only solution would be contacts.

If i take my glasses off then i will probably lose them or smash them.

The camera is smudging the glasses from the outside, and so does my face from the inside. And besides that, this big thing pressed against my face is deforming the glasses' frame and legs - I have it repaired every two weeks or so. And on top of that, it causes me bags under the eyes from looking at my computer long and late instead of getting some healthy sleep.
This must be an addiction - or love...

in the long run, although it does not solve the presbyopia (reading glasses) problem, which we must deal with in any event.

Michele,

I wear glasses and the camera does not smear the outside but when I press hard the oil from my eye brow does smudge the inside. This doesn't seem to bother anything while using the camera but it's the pits when you just look through the glasses.

I try to remember to take a glass cleaning tissue with me (works quite nicely) but why do I forget? (;-)

one of the reasons I got 7D was that the wievfinder has -3 correction. I hate to shoot with glasses.

I share your problem and feel your pain, but I've found a partial solution in my KM 7D camera. The one spec where it leads the pack by a huge margin is eye relief. According to a chart in circulation on the web, the 7D has eye relief of 25mm, and that's 5mm over any other DSLR covered, including Canon and Nikon's top models. I find the 7D VF is pretty easy to use without mashing my nose into the back of the camera. But I think Olympus has a good thing going with their current DSLRs, which move the VF to the upper left of the camera. That places your nose beside the camera. The E-300 series also has an extended VF that moves the eyepoint about an inch behind the body, too.

I don't think any of the manufacturers are paying enough attention to this issue...
