...how was that one done? The tower should be much brighter than the stars, and it doesn't have that 'hdr' look to it.

Both at ISO 1600, 50mm @ f/1.4, first 1/25, second 1/15, so neither is real sharp

Is it just me or are there quite some pictures of Amsterdam posted here! (hehe)
Other than that; Good pictures. The d80 low-light quality seems at least on par with that of the D50 (i own one).
Keep posting you D80 owners.

I don't think it was a trick or combined exposure. Try shooting in manual, focus set to infinity (manual), aperture f2.8/3.5, ISO 400/800 and 10/30 second exposure. That should do it for you.
