SmartMedia losing its mind?

Am I seeing a problem with just 1 type of card reader or are there
other card reader manufacturers that are having this problem??
My take on it is that it's a Windows XP and Windows 2000 problem and not particular to the brand of card reader, but I'm not sure.

Just for the record, my particular situation is Win XP and a Delkin Devices USB card reader. It would be good if others who have experienced this bug would post as to their combination by replying and indicating their setup in the subject line.

I had the same problem at work with the smart media cards. Finally I found the problem to be the image reader not the card. I had always reformatted the card and half of the time would have the same exact problem you have been having. Very frustrating, especially when I would have a deadline and would have to go out and reshoot. Now I only download the images through the port. Yes, it does take longer, however I am no longer having any problems with losing images. Check and see if it continues happening only when you use your image reader to download.

How many of you have experienced this problem:

You take a bunch of photos on a smart media card,

You view the photos on location via the LCD screen on the camera
(3040 in my case)

You get home and put the card in a card reader to find that it says
its empty

You put the card back in the camera and it says NO PICTURES

But you notice that for an EMPTY card it should hold more pictures
that the camera says.....

what is the deal with that? i had a picture of BIG FOOT and a UFO
and lost both my shots becuse of this error.
