I just ordered the kit for the same price that the body only is supposed to sell for ---- shipping was free. I plan to use the kit lens on my istd and give it to my wife to use. I prefer to use my FA 24 - 90 as the lens I'll use on the new K10D. Only dissapointment I have is that my Metz 54MZ4 flash which at least worked on the D in TTL will now no longer work on the K10D in either TTL (Pentax's fault) or in PTTL (Metz's fault) until and unless Metz comes out with a new module that supports PTTL.

Anyway, I "think" this is a good price as I've seen everybody pay the suggested price OR a few dollars in excess. And we know that Circuit City's deal is actually non-existent. I did not speak to a rep so I have no confirmation that they actually have it in stock --- just an email saying that the order has been released for processing. Soooo----- knowing that these are in fairly short supply, I do not want to have this retailer inundated with orders and for that to somehow cause me to not get mine as I only placed the order a couple of hours ago. If this is a really good deal and anyone wants to know where it is, I'll post it in a day or two or after I call and confirm that MINE is coming. I know that this sounds selfish but best I can do. BTW, the retailer is not also bricks and mortar and I'm absolutely positive they are not one of the Brooklyn rip off/not to be trusted outfits.

That's the deal I've locked in - they didn't have the body only, just the kit. I'll let all know who it is as soon as I can call them tomorrow and confirm that mine would be unaffected if suddenly they were inundated with orders ---- so it sounds like we got a good deal as I've also seen folks pay the asking price or @ B&H even a bit higher than suggested prices.

after spending a few hours reading these posts on Saturday, and hearing that some people have already received theirs, I finally clicked the "confirm order" button at buy.com (sorry it's not a featured sponsor of this site). I'm glad I did it then instead of today. The price is up almost $90 and it's listed as out of stock now. My order still says processing, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'll get it soon. It may be one of those at/below cost pre-sell deals like amazon does so they can move inventory and re-order based on demand.

I've been watching Pentax news for almost a year now and put off my purchase of the *ist and subsequent models as I heard of something better, and finally this awesome camera! I'm so excited to receive it after doing all this homework and waiting. I fully expect it to live up to the hype and be my new workhorse. It'll retire my 4th Pentax film SLR and replace my Optio 555.

You can always check froogle.google.com and search by lowest price within a reasonable range ($500-1000), then go with the reseller who's name is familiar.

I did check with a vendor which had the discounted price. They drop ship via the same Amazon distribution channel. So if Amazon is out of stock, they are too.

O.K. ---- I just found out that the place I ordered mine from (Academic Superstore) does NOT have it in stock and their distributor (D & H Distributors) has not yet received their initial shipment yet.

Furthermore, there was an error on their website which shows the $999.95 price less $100.00 = $899.95 ("you save $100.00") And the description of "What's in the box" shows the kit lens is in the box BUT the mistake is that they show the MFG. part # as 19091, which is the part # for the body only. The correct part # that would go along with everything else you see on the page (pricing and description of what's in the box) would be 19092. So I called them back, they see the error and will now start selling it both ways with correct pricing and part #'s. They've PROMISED me that my camera will have the kit lens and they'll stick with the $899.95 price for me ---- but nobody else gets this deal. If they hadn't done that and boosted my price to $999.95 or told me that I'd just get the body only for $899.95, I'd have cancelled the order and placed it with somebody who actually has it in stock now. The guy I spoke with is Margarito --- Sorry guys. Now maybe Bob will tell where he got his kit for the body only price.

Amazon.com still shows it in stock at $899.95 for body only. That's still $20 cheaper than B&H or Adorama. And it's free shipping too!

I ordered mine Sunday night and UPS shows delivery on Thursday. I think that's a good deal.

(With kit lens it's 999.95.)

Latest update -- academicsuperstore.com has the k10D kit for $50.00 off the suggested retail price - you can get it for $949.95. Their body only price is the normal $899.95. Shipping is free and this product does not require that you supply any proof of being a student or a teacher.

How about this price for 800.00 for the Body Only from Preferred Photo.

http://www.preferredphoto.com/product.asp?id=pnk10d

I have no history with this company. The website says there are in stock.

This is just my opinion but if you can get a 0% interest for 12 months deal from anyone and the price is essentially list (with free shipping) why wouldn't you buy it and do the monthly payment for 12 months. Pocket the free shipping and the 3.5-5% inflation (or in this case deflation of your camera).

So say K10d at $950 with lens -4% + sell kit lens $50

Thats $912- 50= 872 for body.

Not a bad deal. And you can do better with a little shopping.

BTW, $800+50 shipping. Looks sketchy to me.
