G6: why so hard to find?

I don't doubt for a minute that the G6 will take good shots. It has the same lens with better coatings as my G5 did, and a much better sensor. problems or not, I really liked the G5.

Back when I had the G5, I didn't have a DSLR, so it served as the place holder until I got one, a 20D. Then I sold the G5, and found I missed it. I toyed with the idea of a G6, but bought a Pro 1 instead. That worked well for me on travel, but I still liked the G series better. The too big and heavy, so the 20D was sold to a friend and replaced with a Rebel XT. With the Sigma 18-125 lens, it's close to the Pro 1 in size and weight and handles better. Then I sold the Pro 1, and more recently bought the G7. As I mentioned, I liked the G5, and in the context of my Rebel XT and an S70, the G7 is a bettter fit for me than the G6.

There are few absolutes in cameras of this class, it's really more about how it all fits together for you.

hi jerry and thanks for your comments. you're right that so much depends on the individual. in my case, i use the sd550 and the fuji f30 when portability is most important. i have the pany fz20 but wanted to try another "bigger" camera for more serious stuff. that's what the g6 will be for me.

later, i hope to follow up on advice given to me by people who know a thousand times more than i do by looking at the following cameras:

Canon 350D/XT + EF18-55 (kit) + EF50/1.8 ...

Canon 300D/Rebel +EF18-55(kit) + EF50/1.8 + EF55-200 ...

Canon D60 + EF50/1.8 + EF28-105/3.5-4.5 ...

Nikon D50 + 18-70? (kit) +Nikon50/1.8 ...

Pentax *ist DS + ?? lenses

pentax k100d + 18-55 kit lens

i've got a lot to learn and love to test different cameras; wish i were a millionaire!

If they didn't sell well, then they would not be sold out. My understanding of the camera production process is that they produce all the units of one model that they anticipate selling, then switch the factory over to a different model. They rarely go back and produce more of a model when they run out.

On the otherhand, if the G6 was available for an extra long priod before selling out, then you may be correct.
