I don't doubt for a minute that the G6 will take good shots. It has the same lens with better coatings as my G5 did, and a much better sensor. problems or not, I really liked the G5.
Back when I had the G5, I didn't have a DSLR, so it served as the place holder until I got one, a 20D. Then I sold the G5, and found I missed it. I toyed with the idea of a G6, but bought a Pro 1 instead. That worked well for me on travel, but I still liked the G series better. The too big and heavy, so the 20D was sold to a friend and replaced with a Rebel XT. With the Sigma 18-125 lens, it's close to the Pro 1 in size and weight and handles better. Then I sold the Pro 1, and more recently bought the G7. As I mentioned, I liked the G5, and in the context of my Rebel XT and an S70, the G7 is a bettter fit for me than the G6.
There are few absolutes in cameras of this class, it's really more about how it all fits together for you.
