A curious bait and switch story on CNN today - "Man paid $1,500 for camera, got sauce in box". Apparently this can happen not only in Brooklyn stores, but even at Best Buy.

I once bought an empty camera box from Best Buy and I returned later that day to correct the matter. Best Buy treated me very, very poorly. After much tension they returned my money.

I then bought the camera at CompUSA down the street.

Moral of story: Alway check inside the box before leaving (or paying for the item) the store.

How do you know that nobody checked it and how do you know it was a returned box. Where you there, I think not.

Why don't you wait till they investigate and find out who is at fault.

Apparantly BestBuy doubted their story but Sony immediately said they would send them the camera they had wanted to purchase in the first place. If you ask me, Sony just didn't want anything bad linked to its name. I think Sony's been having lots of that in the past years and felt like this one is still under their control.
BestBuy on the other hand...

Absolutely!

I'm amazed that people are so obliviously naive as not to do that in the first place. Maybe they should have remained with the jar of pepper souce.

About 22 years ago, I ordered a Nikon F3 body from a mail order company and received two F3 bodies. I called the company and told them I received two F3 bodies for the price of one. The company said that couldn't happen because they had "computerized shipping."

You kind of like to open the box in the comfort of home, and put all of the contents where they belong, and play with the new toy at your leisure. If the box is sealed at the store, should be no reason to suspect.

there can be all kinds of glitches .. i once ordered a 256mb flash mp3 player

and recieved a 1gb instead from a well recognized large retailer .. well i exchanged it .. in any case mistakes happen whether computer mistakes (very often) or human .. imagine getting a 2000 dollar lens instead of the 200 dollar you ordered .. its happened be4 ive seen it and thats be4 the computerized era

Too bad that the couple who bought the video cam from Bets Buy didn't but it from this company, at least they have gotten two jars of spaghetti sauce.

Couple years back I bought an expensive (Canopus) video card from Fry's Electronics. It was a brand new, never opened shrink pack, I Thought.....seems as though someone has opened the box, removed the software and accessories and re-shrink wrapped the box. I returned it and sure enough, when the examined the box, it had the corner torn and then someone resealed it. Fry's made it good and they fired a guy in the shipping/receiving dept.
