For those interested in getting some closeup lizard shots here's my secret:

Find a long stem of wild grass and remove all the seeds. Tie a slip knot at the very end. Make sure that it is just larger than the head of the lizard. Stalk your lizard very slowly and place this noose over it's head. They don't seem to mind the noose too much. Next twitch the noose a little and the lizard will move and tighten the noose:

After capture, remove the noose and shoot away:

They often like a nice belly rub which seems to calm them down:

Now for the really tiny, I'm not sure if I can make a noose small enough:

The western fence lizard (blue belly) generally grows to about 7 inches.
The first three pictures the lizard was about 6 inches long and in the
last picture the lizard was only 1 inch long.

I thought it was a big lizard until I saw the rest of the shots.
Very nice pics.

these guys tend to initially run away when you approach but if you
follow them until they stop, then you can get to about 3 feet if you
move slowly. The western fence lizard has two bright blue stripes on
their belly and some blue under their chins sometimes. Yes, you need
to be careful that you do not pull on their tails because the will fall off
and wiggle, but they will grow back but it will never look as beautiful
as the original
Well, Ill be durned! That is interesting and some sharp shots. I
think I would need ten foot long grass to get near the ones around
here. Is that those bright blue ones that shed their tail if
grabbed? Then eventually grow a new one
