Can someone direct me to where I can get the best price for a 340mb IBM microdrive? Also, does the microdrive drain the battery too much? If so, does anyone have other recommendations for memory cards?

Which camera do you have?

As a general rule I'd go with CompactFlash, unless you're going with the larger Microdrives (say 1 gig). The 340 drains more more power than the CF cards and also the newer 512 mg and above Microdrives. I have a 340 MicroDrive, but the larger CF cards weren't available a year ago. You can get some great deals on CF cards now. They're also solid-state so less likely to cause problems, though I haven't had any with my Microdrive.

Thanks for the reply. Can anyone recommend where I can get a good
CF card for a good rpice? Thanks.
Newegg.com usually has close to the best, if not the best, prices on Flash Memory (CF, SM, etc.). If you're ok with Mr. Flash (not a major brand name) a 256MB CF is US$85.00

They had the 1G MD for $293 but are out of stock. It was reported on another post that googlegear.com has the 1G MD for $269 (+ 12.00 S&H). I checked and this is true. That is a VERY good price.

IBM must be lowering the MD prices to stay ahead of the curve vs Compact Flash.

I've had a 1GB MD since late 2000. It was replaced once under warranty. Ive used it for over 15,000 exposures (G1). I always use a card reader so it gets handled frequently.

Hope this helps
