Well, LBA of the year for me, anyways.... 8-)

It has arrived! I didn't sleep well most of the holiday weekend, fretting over it's eventual arrival.

Well, here's the prerequisite pictures. All shots, unless stated otherwise, are with the *ist DS.

First, I found this in the box - hmm, a large, heavy black Pentax case with a carry strap:

Geez, this is a big fella:

Nice... an FA* 300/2.8...

It's little brother - the FA* 80-200/2.8:

Details - yes, mint condition

Looks pretty good on with the K10D attached (not the other way around):

Sort of looks like a small cannon?

That's not a lens, it's a well! (very clean)

Test shots to follow in my reply...

Cheers,
Marc

Congraulations!

Love the strap lugs on the lens. Not exactly a walk around lens, but one I would love to be able to afford.

Obviously this is not a walkaround lens... LOL

Definitely going to make use of it photographing the big game in Arkansas - our local Elk population, and the upcoming Civil War reeactment on Dec. 2nd.

Should be good. I still cannot believe the size of this thing... 8-0

Cheers,
Marc

Hey Marc,

If you'll bring that beauty over here to western OK, I'll rustle up
some elk and deer for you to shoot.

Hi Eric!

Didn't know they had Elk over there. Of course, I didn't know we had Elk in Arkansas till I read one of Tim Ernst's hiking trails book.

My wife let out comments about my "cannon"... she had no idea it was that big... LOL.

Actually she's a sweetheart and didn't really mind me getting the lens. Now that's a great lady! Of course, now I am officially "done" with any LBA purchases for quite some time now... !!

How far west are you of Tulsa? That's roughly 1.5-1.75 hours for me.

Cheers,
Marc

There are a lot of Elk on the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, about an hour south of here. They are in the rut now, so it's good shooting.

About 3 hours. Go down I-44 to OKC and west one hour. We have pretty good deer hunting out here on the South Canadian River, but the good shooting, photographically speaking, is at the NWR and that's an hour south of us, near Lawton.

I was in your territory last weekend, in Siloam Springs, but not long enough to do any damage with my camera.

'Mad Ron' ~ Retired & building crazy lens contraptions just to see if they work. Hmmmmm...I just thought of something. I will need a paper clip and some tape and....

congrats.

Now let's see some Banding images with this baby and the K10 ;-)

I shot a football game last year with a friend who had rented the 300/2.8L for his canon. It was a monster. Had it's own BOX to carry it around ;-) This baby does not look that big.

especially if you push the lens hood in, almost the same size as the 80-200 w/ the hood on. I've seen a Canon one which IS a monster.

Anyway, congrats on the great lens. And I'm sure we'd see some great shots from it soon :)

And I'm not jealous at all, I need to carry my kids around instead of that baby, for now ;)

Cheers and happy shooting.

That is the biggest lens that I've EVER SEEN! Wow.

And that's one excellent wife you've got there.
