I have been looking around for a good price on a D1x, but B&H is asking $4850 are there any better deals out there?

Try Roberts Imaging (www.robertsimaging.com). Many people have had wonderful service from them including me. You have to call them for the "real" price of the camera as they are not allowed to display it on their website. I just purchased a D1X from them this morning. Please note they are out of stock at this time and are expecting more on Monday.

I'll second the vote for Roberts, Christy is the person who helped me. As to the B&H price, is that before or after the $500 rebate?

I would also like to make the comment that "cheap" doesn't fit :-). Perhaps, "most cost effective" would be better.

B & H sells the Nikon D1x for $4399.95. They, as all Nikon dealers, must advertise at a preset price, but may sell lower. Some of the stores that advertise lower prices do not have them in stock. B & H will. They are very good to deal with.

I agree with the above regarding Roberts (www.robertsimaging.com). That's where I will be purchasing my D1x and several lenses within a month.

$5350 (MSRP)
$4800 (Price over the telephone)
  • 500 (instant rebate lasting for a couple more months)
----------
$4300.

Newtonville Camera (www.nvcamera.com) seems like a very nice place too (they're in Massachusetts), but after all the rebates/discounts, they're $100 more than Roberts. Both seem to have very nice, professional and helpful folks.

I doubt you'll find a cheaper price for an authorized Nikon dealer (U.S. warrenty) selling this camera.

I'm very happy to have found them (from this forum), especially since I was prepared to shell out $5350 from a local dealer PLUS STATE TAX!

Anders,

I wouldn't if I were you. A&M is one of those, uh, less-than-reputable Brooklyn, NY stores that exist only to work you over (e.g. separate you from your hard-earned cash). Take it from a New Yorker ;-)

Check out this list from photo.net (head down the list to find A&M).

Buying a grey market D1x when 100% trustworthy stores like Roberts Imaging and B&H will sell you one for around $4300 is a false economy.

Hello!

I just saw that A&M Photo World advertizes a D1x (no nothing, only
the body) for $3000! Anybody care to comment on their services?

All USA D1x cameras come with the usual accessories. If they are grey, I guess they don't or they are removing these items so they can sell them back to you. I would say no. There are good NIKON dealers out there who you might pay more but are going to get a NEW camera with a USA warranty. If something goes wrong, you will be glad you did!

If you don't have enough money, take some time and save some more as it is NOT worth getting a bad deal.--Greg GebhardtJacksonville, Florida

Hi Rob,

Is "Roberts Photo of Indianapolis" the same store as "www.robertsimaging.com". I read positive review of Roberts Photo of IN through http://www.photo.net and was wondering if this is one and the same? Thanks.

I got my D1X US model with Nikon 1 year warrenty at http://www.adorama.com
last week. I paid 4200 USD after $500 instant rebate. You must call
in and talk with the sale agent.

Many posters, including myself, have done business with Adorama. They do not low ball their prices and then try to sell you expensive accessories or charge inflated shipping charges. I have never had any problems dealing with them. Adorama, like B&H Photo, is one of the few NYC-based photo dealers that is legit.

Greg,

you are 100% correct, some price was too good to be true. I was one of the victims of the Ebay auction at the end of last year, the advertised D1 price was so affordable that I can save $$ for the big glasses. After sending the money to the seller and waiting the new toy day after day, but the D1 never arrived to my front door. Made the story short, the seller admitted that he did not have any camera and he is a middle man only. Fortunately, after exchanging e-mails and telephone calls, finally he refunded 90% of my money.
