I know the 24-105L is mainly meant to work on a 5D
Does any body use it on a 30D ?
Are you happy with the resullts ?

I know it is short on the wide end but I would use it along a 20D mounted with a 10-22.
Any input or sample shot would be welcome
Thanks

I dont know who told you its only meant for the 5D. the 24-105L came out before the 5D. i know you can get it with the 5D but it works great with all the bodies.
Anyway, it was good on my 350D and just as good on my 30D

Without a doubt the most versatile lens in my bag. I use it for landscapes, pets, portraits, insects, plants and sailling. Don't know what I'd do without it! I use it on a 20D.

I do not own that lens but it is not my wish list for my 30D. I got an opportunity to try that lens the I thik the result was good. Good colors and pretty sharp.

It may not be considered wide enough for 1.6 body but currently I am using 28-105 as my walk around for last two years and got used to it.

You might consider the 17-55/2.8 IS too.

I'm too using two bodies. The 17-55 is my walkaround, the second body gets my Tokina 12-24 or the 70-300 IS. Since I own the 17-55 my 24-105 which I bought first became my backup. (I know the 24-105 deserves something better and it feels really good using it ...)

Just bought the 30D last week with the EF 24-105 and EF 70-200mm f/2.8 IS. Fantastic lens even though it isn't real wide but most times wide enough and the extra long is very helpful many times. Great walk around lens and colors are great and sharp. Builld qaulity excellent too! Highly recommended. Bill

I had the 28-105USM as well. it was my fav lens for ages. i kept going back to it even after getting other lens's that were supposed to replace it. In the end i cracked and got the 24-105L. i felt having the extra mm on the wide end might be useful but i really wanted IS. as the 24-105L is close to the 28-105 in FL i found it very easy to switch. At first i couldn't see much of a IQ improvement but now looking back at my old 28-105 shots i can. its not great but its there. plus the IS is great to have.

Stop to think and just do it !!!!! Great lens, great color, fantastic.

I already use this lens with my 350D. I now upgrade to the 30D and it fits perfectly with 30D body.

I have this lens on my 20D, its the lens I use for 90% of all my pictures. For the wide end, I can get a full large couch full of people while standing only 6 feet in front of it. I am very happy with the contrast/color/pop of this lens, I rarely pp my photos. The 17-55IS2.8 is also good, but for me it didn't have the reach I use most and would be constantly swapping lenses (something I don't really do often).

I have, and LOVE, my 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM on my 30D. While taking pictures at a birthday party this week, I was constantly annoyed because I could not get as close as I wanted (zoom in on the face, for example).

Sure, it is only a few steps closer, but with a room full of people that is more difficult.

1. Figure out where you will use it most.
2. Determine if you will need the wider range 17-23mm for most of your pictures.
3. Determine if you need the speed f/2.8

Most of my indoor shots of this type are done with flash above f/2.8, so it does not matter as much for me (for now).

I went from the 28-105 f3.5-4.5 to the 24-105 F4L on my D60 and the IQ and color improvement was overwhelming. The 28-105 was a decent lens, but it was totally worthless wide open.

If you get the 28-75/f.28 then you loose the reach.

I did this (twice) and although the 28-75 f/2.8 and Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 are great lens's if you need longer than 75mm both are a waste IMHO.

I find a lot of people here always seem to talk about the crop factor and that a certain lens isnt wide enough but some people (like myself) want reach over wide and for me the shorter lengths were just not cutting it.

Thats why i finally gave in and got the 24-15L. perfrct for me and im sure a lot of others.

Its an awesome lens and if used along side a second body with a 10-2* for wide stuff or a 70-200 or 100-300 or 100-400 for tele stuff, it makes a great combo.

And since you will be using it on a 1.6 body, I would suggest you also get a better lens hood for it, as the supplied one sucks... I use the ET-83II... ITS AWESOME!!
