I'm thinking about buying a card reader to download my photos to my computer rather than using my camera. If I use a card reader for this, can I download to Zoombrowser the same way as if I was downloading from the G2?

I never tried Zoombrowser, since before I bought my G2, I read this forum and general feedback is that Canon's software bites...

Using card reader or not, you should give Breeze Downloader(freeware) and Breeze Browser(shareware) a try first. I have a card reader as well, but after I installed Breeze Downloader, I found it's easier to download thru the camera's usb cable... The CF door of G2 is a bit weak, and I don't want to break it by accident. I still use the card reader (Lexar Firewire), but only when I need to get the pictures but my camera is busy recharging...

I just got the Zio card reader today.. My G2 should arrive Friday.. Ive heard about Breeze Browser but am not sure what it is... And what is the Breeze Downloader? Should I get both of these now? Do people not use the software that comes with the G2? Which by the way what does come with it? Thanks, Rose

Breeze downloader is a free utility for copying files either from the camera or from a card reader to your hard disk. While you don't need such a utility if you are using a card reader, Breeze Downloader makes the process easier.

Breeze Browser is shareware. It's a browser/raw converter. I use it exclusively and no longer have Canon's ZoomBrowser installed.

If you want to connect the camera to your computer, you will need at minimum to install the USB driver that comes with your camera. All else is optional.

The PhotoStich program is pretty good, and the printing program has had good reviews as well. (I don't print my own, so I haven't actually tried it.)

Most people don't like ZoomBrowser though (some do of course). I found it too clumsy and it tends to crash. Also if you use it to download raw files from the camera, it only saves the .CRW file, copying the contents of the .THM file into its private database. This then makes the .CRW files harder to use with any other program.

Well said. With Breeze downloader, when I plugin my camera, it will prompt me if I want to download all the new pictures, one click and that's it!

When I use my CF reader, I need to start downloader manually, but it will prompt as well.

Thanks guys for helping me.. I am new to all this.. So I got a card reader and don't plan on hooking up my camera to the pc at all.. So I wont need the drivers as stated.. I really dont want the zoom browser after reading the post and will get breeze browser.. But as for Breeze Downloader you say I don't need it if I have a card reader? What exactally does it do? I still dont know what to do once i put the CF in the reader.. I am sure I will learn it all but if its easier with Breeze Downloader let me know I can get it too.. You said Breeze Browser is shareware is it for a limited time then you have to buy or its just always free to use with out the extras it would come with like buying it.. I know some sharewares have like a 30 day trial and stuff.. Thanks Guys, Rose

Get Breeze Downloader anyway, you will love it when using it with G2-> USB-> PC or CF Reader-> USB-> PC. And you are missing quite a bit if you don't hook up your camera to PC, since you can try out the Remote Capture utility(fun for studio shooting)

When you use CF reader, put the CF card into the reader, and start downloader, it will prompt you if you want to download images off the CF reader and put them into a predefined directory.

And as for Breeze Browser shareware concern, this is what it say on the official webpage:

"The unregistered version of the software is fully functional but is limited to only displaying 12 files in a directory"

For $35USD, it's well worth it in my opinion.

Tony.

The reader will show up in Win explorer as a "removable drive", mine shows up as SanDisk Imagemate Drive H. When you click on the approprite place of the removable drive, I think it is 100Canon or something like that, the image files will show up in explorer.

In Win 98 they are file names and on Win XP they show up as thumbnails.

Copy or move them to a folder system that you set up and then take the card out of the reader. Simple as that.

I always delete the images from the card in the camera instead of the card reader. Just my own way to insure that there are no stray files from the computer getting on the card, although I really don't think there would be anyway, but you can download from the computer to the card with the card reader.

Just my $.02
