Quite some time ago, someone recommended a vendor in Florida who sold inks for inkjet printers at very reasonable prices. The posting also gave the vendor high points for being reliable and trustworthy. Does anyone know the vendor I'm speaking of? I thought that I had bookmarked the web site, but for the life of me I can't find it. I would do a search on DPReview, but I don't know what to search for. It's just an e-tailer that I'd like to try.

Anyone recognize such a vendor? Thanks for helping.

Sounds like Atlex.com.

--If you are after Genuine Epson Ink, they are a couple dollars a cart cheaper, service is flawless, shipping reasonable.
When you start getting prices, really cheap, watch out..

If you decide to go CIS, DONT buy the cheapest. There is one that is decidedly cheaper and there are reasons for that. With a CIS, you will do best if you print a fair amount. A couple of prints a week or so, will probably not do it.

Thanks everyone for your help. I just placed an order with Atlex for inks and some 4x6 Ilford paper. The only negative with Atlex is the shipping charge: $10.28 for my order from them to Massachusetts where I live.

I usually shop with Red River Paper. They are in Texas and charge about half what Atlex charged for shipping. However, the prices are enough above Atlex to more than make up the difference. This will be my first order with Atlex. I have been wanting to give them a try, but forgot the name.

Thanks for reminding me.

I have used ink for my R1800 from clickinks.com. They are in Florida and they sell X-Print pigment inks. After running my own profiles for ink and paper I am very pleased with the results and price of their inks. They usually have a buy 2 get 1 free sale which results in a cost of $14.90 for 3 cartridges. Less than $5.00 per cartridge.

Thanks for the suggestion Glenn. However, I have no way to profile my printer and I don't trust 3rd party inks to have the same color values as the Epson inks. I tried some 3rd party inks on a dye based Epson a few years ago and the colors were vastly different from Epson inks. The prints came out with a brown overall cast. I went back to Epson inks and have been reluctant to try other inks again. I suppose that, if I could profile the inks, I'd be happy, but that is not an option for me.

--be advised that at least one of their cis models has warning labels INSIDE the box, prominently displayed across the 'inksack' stating that the plastic tabs are fragile. And sure enough they are, as are the plastic tabs that hold in the ink carts to the outside unit. Their return policy is iron clad "no refunds on opened boxed". When the unit doesnt charge properly, their instruction sheet with the unit advises you to remove the inksack and use a syringe to pull the ink through the tubes.
They of course are friendly and responsive.

In my experience with this construction, it is NOT what I want in ANY of my printers, no matter how many times they may offer to "replace it in 30 days"
I have no experience with the quality or longevity of their inks.

All the above is carefully worded to make sure the remarks are absolute fact, without embellishment.

When something is priced either much higher or much lower than the prevailing market, there is usually a reason.
My challenge, via amex is under review by amex.
As always YMMV

with Inkjetfly was not a good one. Please understand that I am not
necessarily recommending them. I have no personal experience with
their product although I have their CIS for my R220 on my desk ready to
install as soon as I have a bit of time. I bought it because I have been
talking to two people from this forum who give it rave reviews for the R200

and the Epson1280. No system is perfect and I hope that your experience was an isolated case.
I do have experience with MIS INKS and spongeless refill cartridges and

believe the dye ink to be equal to Epson inks and would definately recommend them.

Strangely,Epson in Koea never sold the R800.The R1800 is here.

The Matte Black and Photo Black is the same in all Epson pigment printers since the introduction of the Ultrachrome ink.The red and blue are use very little and the GLOP is said to be much better than any from 3rd partries.

Keep the Epson GLOP,Red ink and Blue ink but use refillable cartridges with ink taken from Pro4800 110ml or 220ml cartridges for the other positions.Take the chips from the Epson empties you have, reset them and put them on the aftermarket refillables.

--I wouldnt contradict anyone that DID recommend them.

MY experience with the quality of materials that are meant to flex for the life of the printer or CIS unit, was VERY POOR.

The basic concept looks good. A few more bucks spent on quality plastic and they may eventually have a decent product. Their 'service response' gets good remarks on E BAY.

I just did not do well with them. And to put warning stickers on a key area, IN the box, that you dont have any idea about until you open the box, then refuse a refund on opened boxes is NOT my kind of vendor.

The very fact they put the warning stickers on the thing is confirmation they know the product is deficient for its likely stress. It is a very false economy on their part.

I have Inkjetfly pigment system in my 1280 and it works perfectly. However the 1280 carts are different construction. With the 1280 you have to use a syringe to charge the carts but that was not a problem.
