Any hope that we can get a firmware update for the R1? There are a few minor things that could make my life a whole lot easier.
  • Adjustable timer (1s, 5s, 10s, 30s, etc)
  • Additional zoom for manual focus
  • RAW shooting without JPG pic being saved
I am sure there are a few too-technical-for-me upgrades that can be made with focusing as well.

If Sony doesn't want to do it... Do we have any "legitimate hackers"? :D

Any thoughts? Am I just being too hopeful?

One setting you can do, is to set the JPG format to the lowest resolution (1 MP). That will save the full RAW image but JPG file created along with it, will be a very small one....even though you cannot completely do away with the JPG being created.

So if I change the resolution in the camera, the RAW image stays at 10M? I did not know that is was independent. Still... it seems somewhat redundant that the R1 save a JPG every time.

The RAW image is the data as it comes from the sensor. No shrinking, no quality adjustments, so it delivers whatever the output resolution of the sensor is under all settings. Or, at least, that's what it's supposed to do! :-)

So... no luck on the firmware?
No, there will be no further updates for the R1
Hi, Roroco,

That's a shame considering the serious bug detected in P mode.

How can you be sure there will be no further updates for the R1?
