Don,
You are missing some really cool features by not upgrading to 2.0.
This version has allows the adjustment of the screen contrast (great in different lighting situations), allows you to use the wallet as a card reader when attached to your computer, allows you to access individual files, and lets you delete files from your card after downloading to the wallet.
I know that updating drivers can
drive you nuts(lol), but I have never found a failure in the updating process to cause any problems. Usually if there is a problem updating, the old version remains in place.
I had no problem upgrading to 1.93, and only a small headache going to 2.0. I had gotten a new computer with XP in the meantime.
To update, save the 2.0 driver (M$A$W$.D$W), to a folder where you will be able to find it. (I created a folder called "downloaded files".) After you have downloaded to this folder, connect your DW to the computer. Go to where you can see the folder where you have saved the new driver file and right click your mouse on the folder name. Click on "explore" and you will see the file name on the right side of the screen.
On the left side of the screen, you will see all of your drive letters, A:, C:, etc., including the letter given to your digital wallet. Simply right click on the name of the new driver file (M$A$W$.D$W) and drag it to the letter representing your digital wallet. release the mouse button, and you should be given the option of moving or copying the file to that drive. Click on "copy" and the file should copy to your digital wallet.
Now all you have to do is disconnect you wallet from your computer, turn of the wallet and then turn it back on. The new driver will then install itself and you will have a greatly improved wallet.
I know this can be intimidating, but if you do this slowly, there is little you can do to harm your computer or digital wallet.
If anything is not clear, maybe your friend can walk you through this by phone.
Good luck,
Rick
Don:
I am curious as I was unable to get the Sony PC adapter (MSAC-PC2)
and memory stick to work with the older version of the firmware.
For me, I had to upgrade to V2.0 just to become functional. It was
my understanding that V2.0 was the first to address this problem
with the Sony PC2 adapter. Are you using the PC1 adapter?
Yes, I use the Sony MSAC-PC2 adapter.
I never found any simple 1-2-3 directions for doing the upgrade
here, or anywhere; so, I had someone who knew what the heck they
were doing, install v1.93DL He lives on the East coast and I live
in the Midwest, so I am not able to update v2.0.
Things like updating drivers etc. just dumbfound me. I always screw
it up so bad, that I have learned to stay away from things of that
nature.
Regarsds,
Don Schaaf
