Been to Portugal (again!)

Lucky you!!! I loved Portugal...must go back and eat more
Bacalao!!! :-)
Hi - and welcome to Olympus talk Forum. Yes, I did indeed eat bacalao - it was unavoidable! As far as food and drink is concerned, Portugal is right up there and everything is either delicious, or heavenly! :-)
Dog pic is super...loved the umbrella shot, the contrast and
pattern. The plaza shot is my favorite one...great lighting.
I liked the way the exposure in that shot worked out considering it was shot in JPEG in fading evening light. As for that dog - he was a right handful - don't let that innocent expression fool you! ;-)

Thanks for stopping by.

nice one Abid, I like that you have gone for some abstract shots,
that hound does indeed look a handful hehe lucky you getting a dog
to stay still for a second while you shoot hehe, tha patterns are
interesting, i like those umbrella shelter things on the beach. The
weather is a bit odd, my mum lives in turkey and some days she says
its really cold and raining then other days its in the 70s, in the
summer it was very very hot she said, they are coming to stay for
xmas so that will be cool. thanks for sharing the pics. BTW I have
a mac now, I really like it its a G4 1Ghz emac. catch you later
....paul
Congrats on the new mac! With 1Ghz, you now have plenty of muscle to post process jst about anything!

Yeah, the weather in the Med during winter can be hot and sunny one minute and back to snow the next! Portugal, Spain, Italy - all quite amazing places. I have visited Turkey twice! :-) But during winter on both occasions and to Ankara - which meant snow and cold!! brrrr!! No doubt you'll catch up with your mom over xmas.

Thanks for looking in.

It's always nice to see the photos from your travels.

In this batch, I think the beach umbrellas and chairs is an
outstanding composition. I also like the monastery, but I think I
would like it better if the horizon was not quite so near center,
and maybe if the structure were offset a little.
Understood John and I have since cropped it that way to have the structure off-centre. I actually shot the picture at ground level - by lying down on the ground and using my elbows as a tripod! :-))
Anyway, you get a gold star in my book with the umbrella shot. I
think it's really good.
heheh thank you kindly sir - as soon as I saw the beach umbrellas, I knew there was a picture there! :-)

wonderful images..Like some other OTF members my favorite is the
beach umbrellas picture, composition and colors are impressive. The
Portugese tourism agency should give you a special award for your
wonderful pictures from this lovely country.
hehehe that would be nice! Well, as you know I love travelling and doing this type of travel photography :-) One day I hope to be in Cyprus too! Air travel is cheap and convenient these days (even though its environmentally unfriendly). So I want to travel as much as I can before they change laws or make us use boats instead! ;-))

AH, you are so fortunate to be able to travel the continent to so many beautiful, scenic, and historical places. Really enjoy your 'travelogues'.

Your friend's dog, "Botish", looks very much like my own terrier mix, "Benji".

That ancient monastery looks like it has some Moorish heritage. Very intriguing structure and fine image.

Very nice selection of shots from your trip.

Best regards,

****:)

...like do research and ... or is this a job where you just travel around, win prizes and give talks and have fun on the beach. Sure wish I could have had a job like that. (Actually, I did for awhile.)

What is so interesting about these photos, Abid, is that each is a very different mode of photography. A pet pic, and landscape with loud stated shapes, a design pic, and architecture shot and a fun snapshot. It covers everything and I like them all. The 2nd and 3th would most likely be picked as POTDs. But I sort of like the dog and the scientists on the beach pics...they make me feel good.

Your nose looks pretty normal in this photo, too, Abid. :-)
Love the dog!! Too cute. Enjoyed the others too.
hehe. That dog was a right handful - just full of energy and ready to jump on you as soon as look at you! But after 2-3 days, he got used to us and at least stopped trying to bite our fingers off! ;-)

Thank you Richard - yep, I love travelling and taking pictures on foot. I am lucky in a way in that within 2 hours flying time I can sample different languages, geography - even people! Since I don't waste money on cigarettes or alcohol, I spend it on short trips instead. Its my only vice your honour! :-)
Your friend's dog, "Botish", looks very much like my own terrier
mix, "Benji".
LOL!! Thats exactly what we thought - its Benji! He is still a juvenile and that means he is constantly full of energy - so much so that he was practically restless - just wanted to run, or jump on you, or chase after one of his many toys.
That ancient monastery looks like it has some Moorish heritage.
Very intriguing structure and fine image.

Very nice selection of shots from your trip.
Thanks. As a lone tourist, it wouldn't be so easy to get around and see some of the hidden treasures - but when you know someone there, its nice to be shown around. The catch is when they come to visit you, you have to reciprocate - which I love doing also! :-)) win-win situation!

hihi....ahem...research has its own hours of work (as I'm sure you remember well!). There are times when you stay in the lab until late at night taking just one more measurement for that all-important graph, and there are other times when you can nip out to the botanic garden for an hour while something stirs away in a flask :-) But if you manage to find a conference, or get invited to speak somewhere, its a great opportunity to add a couple of days on top and travel while you're there :-)

hehe...variety is indeed the spice of life. Buildings are nice - but so are people and pets and other 'oddities' such as fish hanging out to dry, beach umbrellas). As fort that dog - he was a right handful - full of energy, resletless and ready to jump on you as soon as you set foot outside. It took a while to get used to his effervescence, but it was worth it :-)

Thanks Lois. The beach umbrellas were definately one to shoot as soon as I saw them. Good thing it was sunny! ;-)

Great looking pooch! And nice to see you out and about on the
beach. How do you like the 50-200?

did you get to the museum?
Yet again, I missed out on the museum in preferance to going out of town and seeing a bit more of the coastal areas.

While you were away in USA, I bought a second lens - but not the Olympus 50-200mm. Instead, I got the Sigma 55-200mm (which fits the Olympus 4/3 system). I bought it second hand for just 55 UK pounds (about 80 USD) from a seller on the Oly SLR forum. And so far, its proved to be fairly good. Doesn't quite have the image quality of the 40-150 or the 50-200, but for 55 pounds, it'll do nicely :-)
